Taliban Changing Tactics: Now Denial from SWAT Flogging

MINGORA: Tehrik-e-Taliban Swat has denied having flogged a 17-year old girl and termed the video clips as fake and a conspiracy for sabotaging the peace agreement.

Speaking at a press conference at Charbagh, the TTP Swat spokesman Muslim Khan told reporters that about six months ago a woman was flogged for illegally residing with her father-in-law Noor Jalal for eight years in a house, saying that the man was also flogged.

Like a Chameleon Taliban have changed their stance so abruptly that it might have stunned their own foot soldiers who carry out their day to day terror and intimidation. Reacting to the public reaction and condemnation from the cross section of the Pakistanis, they are now denying the flogging.

But if you read through the story the Taliban spokesman contradicts his own statement that the flogging “did” take place but was 6 months ago and for a different matter altogether.
Does it leave you wondering about their logic and reasoning? That’s the mindset which pretty much defines their Islamic interpretation and the right to do Jehad against the rest of the humanity.

(I have stopped pulling my hair whenever I read something like this because I am going bald so I urge you not to do it as well)

In another story relating to US immigration centre shooting, Taliban made another flase claim.

Pakistani Taleban leader Baitullah Mehsud called the BBC in Islamabad to claim responsibility for the attack.

He gave no evidence to corroborate the claim.

But Mehsd has yet to deny his previous claim  (above) for ordering the shooting at the US immigration centre which has been found false by the FBI

quiet a transformation from Bigots to terrorists then from terrorists to Liers.. what is next?   I hope it will be from Liers to "extinct"

Image does matter even for the Taliban.

They may be some decent coming from with in the Taliban.

thing to note is that they are not regretting the flogging, they are just blaming the west for its coverage. and in a way trying to reduce its effect by saying its an old story... as if that makes it less condemnable.. I agree that they dont really care about the image but such revelations can affect their recruitment process and trasformation from sympathisers to belivers and then active follwers from the genral public of Pakistan.

Fair enough, but, i am still confused, rather suspicious, regarding that video!

suspicious of the whole video or taliban training and voilence? you have the internet you can check for your self that it is littered with the similar stuff from them.

Taliban are beheading at least 2 people a day in tribal areas on the charges on spying and security forces personal is just a bonus for them. one of the reason Swat population is so subdued is that they saw the same fate while the fight was on with the forces when the town square used to have police, army and ordinary civilian headless bodies with the notes attached from taliban warning the same fate for the people daring to oppose them.

Hey brother! See, i meant no offense to what you posted, actually i think the same way, and i already know all these facts. But, if something is still confusing me is that flogging video of young girl, i meant that video, not your video. Peace!

It appears that both the Goverment and taliban place the "peace deal" more sacred than the lives of people of Swat.

currerntly there is conspiracy theory being circulated suggesting the flogging footage is an attempt to sabutage the "peace deal" by the Westren powers.

enator Zahid Khan said the issues that could harm the peace deal should not be raised at this point of time. He said there was immense pressure on the ANP from the US and many other countries not to sign a peace deal but the ANP has succeeded in convincing many of them regarding the efficacy of the accord.

the above extract is an admission by the goverment that it has failed to protect its own people against the millitants and supported the reaction of the West which criticized it for signing the deal.

Alas the Taliban barbarity is being equally matched by the Absubdity and incompitance of the Pakistani Goverment.

MINGORA: The man who witnessed as well as filmed the Taliban flogging a teenage girl in Swat has spoken out. The flogging was featured in a two-minute long video shot from a mobile phone and shows a burqah-clad woman lying on the ground while being whipped by the Taliban.

Shaukat is the only eye-witness who has come forward and spoken to Dawn News about the incident.

He claimed that the incident took place two weeks ago.

It appears that next 3 or 4 days will be spent on claims and denials and counter claims. No wonder there are not many people willing to come forward given the record of Taliban dealing with informants, spies and "traitors".

Incompetence of government ? And what do you offer ? Again to enter there the army of the USA and to manage from Washington?

I offer nothing mate, I am merely stating facts and giving my view point. I wont ask for US Amry help.

their record for the past 9 years in Afhganistan is less than impressive. having lost 80% of Afghanistan to Taliban and their commanders openly suggesting talking to Taliban is not something to brag about

New tourist extreme adventure: Life with the Taliban in the beautiful SWAT valley.

Wonder how Khadija is making out today? They were threatening to behead her today.

where did you get this information from? that will pretty much negate their new claim.

Amaad, story on khadija on International News. posted Sat, April 4, 2009.

The other was an attempt at satire. Someone once told me when I was very down that it was the human thing to do to laugh when it hurts the most.

Good grief. so now they are common criminals as well.. I wonder where is the Holy part in asking for Ransom for a Muslim woman?

we can ask this question from the safety and comfort of our homes. I dont think people of Swat and tribal areas can dare to pose such a question.

Rene, will US army be making the similar sales pitch for Afghanistan?

"Extreme adventure of the life time in and arround Kandahar and Kabul valley, you better hurry up before every thing is lost to Taliban"

I only want for happiness and peace to truly return to the mountains and valleys of your homeland. For the green and the plentiful crops, for laughing children, and cheerful get-togethers. For joy to come back. for wild flowers.

You all blamed our absence once for the terror that has come. Now that we are here, you blame our presence.

Can't have it both ways.

Tell all those 'terrible boys' to get a job.

MILITANT ISLAMICS, THE TALIBAN, NORTH KOREAN LEADERS, AND A FEW MORE IN THEIR CATAGORY, COULD WELL GIVE THANKS THAT I AM NOT IN CONTROL OF WESTERN NUCLEAR ARMAMENTS.

Question: How do you explain the failure to defeat the Taliban armed only with AK -47 and RPGs, when you have the mightiest and most advanced army in the history of mankind.

Answer: Put the whole blame on Pakistan, blame the border and just for good measure criticize Pakistan Army in failing to contain the militancy along the border.

Regardless of the specifics of this particular incident, what's happening in Swat is so sad.

I'm an American and traveled freely around the Swat Valley around 10 years ago. The people there were peaceful and unbelievably friendly.

I totally agree, its sad that we are still busy blaming each other. while this menace spreads. sadly rest of the world seems to have a different crieteria when the terror victims happen to be Pakistanis. the sarcasm starts with blaming Pakistan and ends with blaming Pakistan. it appears that all the people who have lost their family members for the past  8 or 9 odd years dont deserve the same sympathy

I think everybody is forgetting the villagers and farmers who are damned if they do or damned if they don.t.  They.re walking a tightrope between the Taliban and Western Forces.  It seems to me for every step forward two are going backward.  The sad thing is that the Kabul government under Karzai controls very little of the country outside of Kabul.  The Afghan National Army has come a long way and is capable of fighting alongside Western troops.  The Police Forces are in a totally different category.  They are subject to the same bribes that the general population is. You can.t win hearts and minds by destroying poppy fields and replacing it with nothing.  There has  to be much greater  engagement by the UN.   Remembere Maslows Theory on Happiness.  If the basic needs of the population aren.t met NOTHING WILL CHANGE.
