Taliban no threat to US, Europe: Omar

The number one Taliban leader in Afghanistan, Mullah Muhammad Omar is hinting peace in the war torn country of Afghanistan.

The reclusive leader of the Taliban said on Monday the Islamic militia is not a threat to other countries and he called on citizens of Nato nations to pressure their governments to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.

Many thousands of miles away here in the United States the conflict in Afghanistan gets very confusing of who is fighting who in areas that have for centuries been adminsitered through tribal customs. After 9/11, Afghan tribes who were are friends while fighting the Soviet Afghan occupation are now are enemies of global freedom and liberty.

Interesting enough in the October 2001 issue of the Christian Science Monitor, Robert Marquand reported on the elusive Mullah Mohammad Omar. There seems to be a definite contrast between the Taliban and Al-Queda when summing up Omar.

Omar is on record condemning any export of jihad by the Taliban to neighboring countries, and especially by Osama bin Laden. "We have told Osama not to use Afghan soil to carry out political activities as it creates unnecessary confusion about Taliban objectives,"

Fast forward a decade later and we now see additional overtures by Omar to quell the cross border conflict in the sacking of the Pakistan Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud.

Mullah Muhammad Omar, had already sacked TTP chief Baitullah Mehsud and ordered him to disband the Taliban movement in Pakistan, as the Taliban activities had been affecting their jihad against the foreign forces in Afghanistan.

Would it be possible for NATO coalition forces to initiate talks with Omar in destroying Al-Qaeda leadership and activities? Which is in similiar fashion and in stark contrast to the alliance that U. S. forces had with the Northern Alliance at the initial stages of the Afghan war back in 2001.
