Tamil Leader Anandasangaree says Mullavaikal hospital hit

Sri Lankan Tamil Leader V. Anandasangaree said that hospital was hit by LTTE and asked the government to send urgent medical help to the suffering civilians.

LTTE is using civilians as human shield to protect the terrorist leader Prabhakaran and the top terrorist leadership. The conditions of civilian hostages are very poor as all the food, medicine and other facilities are taken away from them, for the use of LTTE terrorists.

Above all these LTTEs fire at any civilian tries to escape from their clutches. The attack on the hospital is the latest barbaric act by LTTE terrorists to remind the tamil civilians that what is awaiting those who tries to escape.

Leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) V. Anandasangaree, who is respected by the government for his anti-LTTE stand, said in a letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa a hospital in Mullivaikal was hit by shells today killing at least 26 patients.

He urged the President to arrange a medical team to visit Mullivaikal where over thousand casualties of other incident are also awaiting medical attention for two days.

“With deep regret I wish to inform you that this morning at 7.45 a.m. in a shelling incident at Mullivaikal hospital 26 patients died on the spot, ten a few minutes later and more than 100 injured. Please intervene and stop firing shells targeting terrified civilians. Also arrange a medical team to visit Mullivaikal where over thousand casualties of other incident are also awaiting medical attention for two days,” the TULF leader said.

He further noted that even if the attack was carried out by the LTTE the government still has a duty to save the civilians.

There's a mechanism already in place by the GoSL to evacuate the injured, in corporation with the ICRC, via the passenger liner "Green Ocean." What is lacking is the corporation of the LTTE.

On the other hand what guarantee one could obtain from the LTTE that they will not take the visiting medical team as hostages, as well as a bargaining chip?

If one goes by the past conduct, thats a high possibility.

1956 , 1977, 1981, 1983 Tamils were killed, raped, properies were distroyed by Sinhala Mobs and Security forces, do you think any sane tamil can trust Sinhalese or their securtity forces??

I lived in Matale and saw my house was burnt by our so called Sinhalese Friends and Sri Lankan Army.How could you trust either of them??

Hence Mr Shankaree get your facts right and you should join either JHU or another racist main stream party convert to a Buddhist that will suite you better.

You need to face facts. SLA has won, LTTE has lost. There is no way Tajmils can defeat the government.

The choices are to rejoin the majority and wor with them and slowly gasin eqwuality

resort to terrorism and see more Tamil lives lost and longer second class status for Tamils.

I agree with the rest of your comment. There are a lot of Tamils in Sri Lanka who would agree with you 158. See this sentiment by a Tamil,

A new, democratic, educated, mature, pragmatic and wise leadership has to emerge from among the Tamils- both indigenous and of Indian origin that will be acceptable to not only the Tamils, but the other peoples of Sri Lanka as well. Tamil politics, while defining itself, has to merge into the national politics of Sri Lanka. We cannot afford to be the permanent outsiders in Sri Lankan politics any more. While the problems of the Tamils should be the concern of Tamil politicians and political formations, the problems of the Sinhalese, Muslims and the other peoples of Sri Lanka should be their concern too! I am sure, when this happens, our problems will become the concern of the Sinhala polity too. The frog in the well attitudes that have defined the politics of the Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims of Sri Lanka have to be over come at the earliest, if we are to prosper as a nation. There have to be two hands to clap and two hands to shake hands!

In reality, for some of the second and third generation tamils don't know what is happening in Sri Lanka. For them the homeland stuff is nothing but a prestige issue. Some kind of trophy to show the world. This wasted war and LTTE terrorism and the lost live are, for these ignorant part of hyperventilated tamils in diaspora is equal to just a first person shooter video game they play in their PS2s and computers. Since this is sensational news and LTTE flag wielding demonstrations very colorful are attract media and they get much publicity that they don't deserve.

It is more complicated than that Agent.

Among the older generation of the Diaspora, there are people who actually fled SL because of what was done to them in '83. When you see murder and looting done to you and your kind I guess it stays on with you for the rest of your life. 1983 also is the very reason how LTTE managed to get support from so many Tamil youth at that time. 1983 was a horrible horrible thing that happened in Sri Lanka but it is also true that average Sinhalese people had nothing to do with what happened in 1983 and most Sinhalese saved or tried to save the Tamil neighbors from the attacks. Thugs of Sinhala society carried out those attacks while some very poor urban people used it as a chance to loot. JRJayawardana and the Police looked the other way when this happened and only recently I learned that IGP (Inspector General of Police) at that time had been a Tamil, one Rudra Rajasingham ironically.

Anyhow what I'm trying to say is that some of these people have had fair grievances but a lot more Tamils started migrating in later years. There are many who left SL because of the harassment from the LTTE as well.

All these people only know Sri Lanka as how it was some 20 years ago. They have passed on their pain (and hatred?) to the new generation, and LTTE somehow looks to most of them as the means of their Freedom I guess. Sad part is that like Dr. Narendran says, "The unstinted and unquestioning support of the Diaspora, bordering on reverence" for LTTE, had made them blind to what LTTE does. LTTE carried on with their hate culture in foreign lands and the young generation of the Diaspora fell easy prey for this. As they have not known Sri Lanka, they readily believed all Sinhala people were their enemy. That's what the LTTE taught them with all the different TV/Radio/websites that indirectly did LTTE's work for them. All the village massacres and bus/train bombings LTTE carried out most probably look fair in the eyes of this young generation as a means of revenge for 1983(i don't know really?).

The homeland idea is only the other part of this story I believe.

However, Lankan Tamils (the ones who live here - large majority) do not share any of these thoughts.

Good information.

The LTTE is defeated. I meant in the future Tamils, even if united, cannot defeat the 80% majority in SL., either militarily or politically so cooperation is their only choice.
