Tamil Nadu journalist burns himself to death condemning Indian inaction [TamilNet, Thursday, 29 January 2009, 07:02 GMT]
A young Tamil activist burnt himself to death in front of the Shastri Bhavan, the Indian Central Government's Chennai Head office Thursday, reports from Chennai said. The activist, Mr. Muthukumar, from Thooththukkudi, who works for Pe'n'nea Nee feminist magazine as typist and also writes articles, doused himself with petrol and set himself afire, condemning the futile visit by Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who failed to stop the war in Sri Lanka and save Eezham Tamils.
With 95% burn injuries, the victim was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College in a critical condition, with slim chances of survival. He succumbed within a short span of time, according to medical sources.
Tension prevails in the capital city of Chennai following the news of the young Tamil activist burning himself to death in front of Shastri Bhavan office.

We're trying to prevent deaths, not create deaths. Indian tamils, srilankan tamils really appreciate your commitment and support and we are really lucky to have you as our brothers and sisters, but one death is one too many! Please join in our struggle to save lives, not take them away! My heart goes out to the family of the young journalist, Muthukumar.

I think the young Journalist who burnt alive, due to the fear of Indian government's torture if he is arrested by the police after he get caught issuing such brochures, which describes the true political situations in India I will try to translate it in English and produce if time permits in near future.

His letter states that there are so many lifes being burned and killed every day because of the government brutality and on top of that, India is supporting the Genocide of Tamil people by providing weapons and all sort of inteligents to the Sri lankan Gov. Also there are about 300,000 people trapped in the so called Army's "Safe Zone", but the army is dropping bombs and killing these people because they are Tamils. Mr. Muthukumar's point by buring himself is to let the Indian Gov know that there are 63million Tamils in this world who support the cause and to tell the Sri Lankan govt to Stop the war, let the tamil and Sinhales journalist that flee from Sri lanka to India be granted as Refugees, Give Tamil's the rights they deserve to life and so on. There are about lots of request's and pointers he had in a 6 page letter he distributed before he did.
