Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } Thidir Nagar, Greames Road, a settlement near the Cooum River. Over the last few days of rain, the water level of the usually polluted river rose and entered many homes of those living in its banks; people residing there had to abandon their homes, grab what they could and had to seek shelter in schools and Churches by the Roadside.

When asked if “officials” have paid a visit survey the damage, we found out that this part was completely neglected by the local authorities.

Inadequate warning systems and poor drainage system has bought life to a stand still.

Traffic jams, vehicles lined up for miles and miles and unusable roads, power cuts and lack of a cohesive disaster management units are the cause for great misery among people.

This is not something that happened, just this once. Every big cyclone brings such miseries, and the government should learn from past experiences, they should be better prepared.

In Thidir Nagar, it was moving to see the plight of those who lost their homes and all their belongings and the stagnant water in the lanes could be cause of more disease.

This part along with many other parts of Chennai desperately needs aid.

Photos taken on thurday Night, when chennai came to a stand still, bikes, cars, Buses were standard in water. never ending rain and poor drainage system, made lives difficult.
