TASMANIAN DEVIL SOON EXTINCT
Remember the iconic Tasmanian Devil, the one we grew up loving and watching cartoons of, will soon have the same fate as Dinosaurs.
A cancer is threatening to limit the cute creature , native to Australia, to children story books and Cartoons. If a cure is not found soon this creature will be extinct in the next few years.
The Scientists admit they may never find a cure for the disease which will wipe out this animal. Almost 80 percent of this species has already been lost in the past decade and despite millions of Dollars spent on researching a cure the scientists have drawn up a blank.
In 1996, the carnivorous marsupials began developing a secluded form of cancer called Devil Facial Tumour disease. This cancer attacks the mouth and spreads across the face; ( please see picture above) it is a rare contagious cancer, and is spreading like wild fire because devils habitually bite each other on the face. The disease now threatens to destroy the entire wild population.
It is interesting to watch this development because this creature was once hunted by the farmers as it was thought to be a pest and now it has been listed to be on endangered list and millions have been and currently being spent on finding a cure for this animal.
The bitter sweet irony of this scenario is that if the scientists can not find the cure for this cancer( just like they haven't been able to for human cancer) , this form of cancer will go extinct along with the animal and can not threaten the ecology of the environment.
