March 20, 2008; Singur, Bengal; A farmer narrates his tale of distress and merciless beating in the Singur Police station. He can't lift his left arm anymore and also told that even his five year old daughter wasn't spared the rod by the local police. He never told his name and didn't wanted to pose for picture in fear of further police torture.
Lush green fields surround the under construction Tata motors plant in Singur village in West Bengal. This plant, which will produce the Tata's small car Nano, has recently come under fire from farmers and villagers for forcefull acquisition of agricultural land. The ruling Communist Goverment in the state used strong police force to intimidate poor farmers and grabbed 1013 acres of land. And as the farmers start committing suicide, modern India eagerly waits for the One-lakh car to roll out in mid-October 2008.
