He argued that the Tea Party was not the act of a lawless mob, but was instead a principled protest and the only remaining option the people had to defend their constitutional rights.

Tea party protests held in 700 US cities on April 15, 2009, tax day, are a conservative led revolt born and bred online. The TEA in Tea Party is an acronym that stands for "Taxed Enough Already" and organizers spent a mere $25,000 getting fed up people across the nation to take part.

Using social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and hashtags like #tcot and #teaparty, Tea Party organizers created a massive awareness campaign.  Tea Party organizers also employed good old-fashioned SMS technology to get people out to the protests - text "teaparty" to 69302 to find a Tea Party protest near you.

As many Americans rush to file their 1040 forms on national tax day, cheering crowds across the country are heaving huge coolers with "Tea" painted on the side into bodies of water, harkening back to the pre-Revolutionary War protests in Boston, Massachusetts. In those 1773 protests, colonists dumped tea into the harbor in a show of defiance against British rule and the British Parliament's attempt to levy taxes on the American colonies without allowing them representation in the body.

Protesters on Wednesday said like their colonial forebears, they felt that their voices were not being heard by their government.

At one protest Wednesday morning a sign read, "I read as much of the stimulus bill as my Congresswoman." Another read, "You can't put lipstick on socialism."

The April 15 Tax Day Tea Party 2009 was inspired by another famous tax revolt, the 1773 Boston Tea Party, that led to the American Revolution.

This time the efforts are not protesting against unfair imperial rules but rather bailout bills and stimulus packages.  There is a decidedly ant-socialist message in the Tea Party Protest rhetoric which is somewhat different than the "for the people" spirit of the original Boston Tea Party. However, it is clear that people are fed up with paying more taxes to fund government spending they can not support.

Organizers say they're steamed at government spending since President Barack Obama's administration took over and are planning their own mini-revolts. The rallies are designed to echo the original Boston Tea Party more than 235 years ago.

The demonstrations are being held everywhere from Kentucky, which just passed tax increases on cigarettes and alcohol, to South Carolina, where the governor has repeatedly criticized the stimulus package. Large protests also are expected in California, New York and Atlanta. "Joe the Plumber," the colourful character who became famous after questioning Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign, was set to address a rally at the Michigan Capitol in Lansing.

Meanwhile, Obama declared that he aims to take the dread out of deadline day. Obama said at a White House event today that he's working toward "a simpler tax code that rewards work and the pursuit of the American dream."

"For too long, we've seen taxes used as a wedge to scare people into supporting policies that increased the burden on working people instead of helping them live their dreams," Obama said. "That has to change, and that's the work that we've begun."

This is not just a conservative view. There are many democrats that are attending these TEA parties. This is a way for concerned americans to let the government know that it's too much and not fair. People that work hard for what they have shouldn't pay for others mistakes.

Alan Keys and Peg Luksik walked across the 6th street bridge in Pittsburgh on their way to the Allegheny landing tea party, where they both were warmly welcomed by the enthusiastic crowd. Peg spoke about the need to follow protest with political action, and Alan challenged the crowd to make the tea party the first step in reclaiming America. The event was a wonderful success with more than a thousand people turning out to protest.

The TEA'd Taxed Enough Already came from an Op-Ed from Newt Gingrich who came on board with the tea party movement months after it was worked on By TCOT (Top Conservative of Twitter) SGP (Smart Girl Politics)   DontGo by Eric Odom.  and then later by the 912 project. All have been accused of being astro-turf (fake grass roots) groups by Speaker Pelosi and others.  I guess that was a way to diminish the impact of 1/2 a million people showing up simply by using the internet SMS like twitter.  The left has always made fun of the rights inability to GET IT when it comes to the internet.  The bottom line is that that the folks who worked on these events were every day citizens who were upset enough to put together a rally in their city.  They received help (non monetary) from these groups like helping understand how to get permits, insurance, deal with red tape.  There was no financial aid send to cities.  There was NO financial help from any BUG company or Big money people.  I have been working on a story on the Columbia and Charleston SC city planners.  From what I have gathered from interviews with these folks is they are fed uo with Government (not just Obama) and decided to speak out.
