Caught On Tape: Teacher Sherri Davis Fired For Beating Student At Jamie's House Charter School, Houston, Texas (video)

Sherri Davis was fired from her job as a teacher at Jamie's House Charter School in Houston for beating a student. A beating that was caught on tape by another student with a cell phone camera.

A parent shared the beating video with the local Fox News outlet which promptly televised Davis beating the student, 13 year old, Isaiah Johnson.

“Now that officials at Jamie’s House Charter School have been able to review the video on Fox News, we are horrified at the actions of the teacher,” principal David Jones said in a statement.

Isaiah's Johnson's mother Alesha says she was horrified after seeing the beating video and her son say even though the beating lasted roughly a minute it felt longer.

I was on the wall like this trying to get away from her and she started hitting me, banging my head to the wall and kicking me," Isaiah said.

"He's had a knot on his head for a week. He had a black eye, bruises on his cheek," Alesha added.

Isaiah told Fox News that the beating started after he and some classmates laughed at a mentally challenged girl dancing.

Weird how the instinct to film something on a phonecam has supplanted the kick-some-butt instinct. At my high school, someone would have jumped the teacher before anyone could even get to the video menu on his/her phone. I'm not saying that it would be right or wrong, just that it would have definitely happened.

Yikes !  even if the boy had a "smart mouth" he was not "Looking for a fight" from what I can see on this video,  He was trying to get away from her from the beginning.

Can you say "child abuse" ? ¿

no he probably was not looking for a fight, but then again most Bullies aren't looking for a fight.  The teacher absolutely went over the line, but it's hard for me to really feel sorry for the kid that got beat, I probably feel worse for the other kids who had to watch,  maybe next time this kid will think twice and keep his mouth shut rather than pick on someone who is handicapped.  If it was my mentally retarded child who was getting picked on and who the teacher was defending, I probably would not have a problem with what she did, cause if I was there and had a mentally retarded child that this kid was picking on I dont know if I would have been able to restrain myself to keep from doing the same thing.  Just put yourself in those shoes what if that was your kid who not only had to face life with a handicap but had to deal with ignorant wastes of oxygen like this kid picking on them for something they have no control over. Again yes the teacher crossed the line but lets not act like she just went nuts an started beating some poor innocent child, this kid was making fun of a handicapped person, I mean is there anything more low class than that? Maybe his parents should be looking at themselves and how they raised their child rather than at the teacher who reacted to their childs ignorance

Sad to say you all missed what really happened in the video... I'm not saying it was right at all what was done.  But she stated you want to fight a girl come on.... then the beating began.  At the end of the video the child films a white female that the little boy was fighting on.  Again as a parent and/or adult BAD judgement.  There's her JOB and the time she took to gain her DEGREE.   -----Really shows that times have changed and kids are subject to lots of violence and verbal abuse from other kids.

"I'm not saying this was right"But then you go on to say how it was right...Kids will be kids, yes they can be cruel but this is nothing new. You are a pathetic person for justifying an adult beating and humiliating a child.

3
JenniferHisadingbat

And you are pathetic for excusing the boy's teasing and making fun of a disabled child. That makes you just as pathetic. Saying kids will be kids about something like that makes you one of the parents of bully kids who pick on other kids and you are just to busy to bother to teach your kids any better. Because kids will be kids right?

Teasing is not the same as beating someone. And the teacher should be setting an example on how to act for the kids - not resorting to 12 year old tactics herself. No matter what that child did he did not deserve to get beaten by his teacher. Period. You making excuses for the horrible actions of the teacher is ridiculous at best. The only bully in that classroom was the teacher.

It was more to it than he was laughing at some little girl cause you can hear another child on the video saying " he tried to hit that girl" so it was more than they letting on. I dont agree that she should have whooped his ass like that and kicking him and stuff that was a bit much but bullies are the worst kinds of students and no one deserves to be picked on. As we can tell nobody is asking the students what happened therefore it must be more to it than they letting on.

And the constructive lesson this "bully" learned was what? Oh yeah, violence is how you solve your issues.

No, he learned to keep his mouth shut or someone might beat his azz, a lesson more bullies need to learn

Thanks for uploading the video.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I went to an independent school in the UK and teachers used to physically abuse kids there but they got away with it 'as they were seen as strict' and boy, independent schools 'love' strict teachers. I wonder if teacher training college is a training ground for teacher bullies.

Statistical records need to be made of teachers abusing kids, verbally or physically. I am all for CCTV to be in classrooms, for all parties.

Brusquely punish someone has nothing to do with child abuse. And instead of "statistical records of teachers abusing kids" would be far more important collect statistical data od kids, abusing other kids or teachers. Only mistake of that teacher was the amount, not the method.

Baruog: "...this sadistic teacher probably just wanted to beat the s*** out of this little angel for pleasure."LITTLE ANGEL??!!  Have you lost what little mind you have left?!  Why don't YOU try teaching kids that don't want to SIT DOWN and SHUT UP!  Always JUDGING but NEVER BEEN in the same situation...I guarantee you will forever be at the panic button asking for help.  The spokeslady said that we have to respect the kids.  NOT IF THEY HABITUALLY DISRESPECT YOU!  What teacher just SNAPS out of the blue like that?  There was BUILD-UP.  I support the teacher.

So by your logic you also support Police Brutality. The problem is that Teacher's and Police Officers are supposed to be able to handle the stress (and i know that its very stressful) and make INTELLIGENT and REASONABLE decisions. Beating up a kid, and i dont care how much of a piece of crap he is, is not the way to solve this issue.

0
No pity

how can you even compare this to police brutality? this teacher was on her own in a room full of kids trying to deal with one bad one, Police usually have several guys backing them up going after one guy there is usually no need for excessive force, and if the person deserves it they get locked up, what options does this teacher have? some may say she could have sent the kid to the principal, but I am willing to bet all the principal would do is talk to the kid and send him back to class, maybe even detention but the kid would be back in that same class shortly, in most cases teachers cant get rid of a kid who causes problems (meaning get him/her out of her classroom) no matter how bad or how big a distraction he/she is until it gets bad enough that he needs to be expelled because most schools dont have a "jail" (for lack of a better term) to send the bad kids to to keep them away from the good ones.

It is easy to compare the two, and she already answered your question - becasue cops and teachers and not supposed to react in that manner, no matter how much "stress" they feel. If you are in an occupation like this and feel to stressed, either seek professional help in dealing with it, or find a new job. No excuse at all for this teacher's behavior.

Umm...I think 'little angel' was meant to be sarcastic....  ;)

I was shocked that this behavior was actually being condoned by most on here until i realized that the boy was black, the girl was white, and its in Texas. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

1
LaRubia

Maybe Texas withdrawing from the "Union" wouldn't be so bad!!! I couldn't believe some of these people are backing the teacher, if you can even call her that. There are kids who are difficult to handle but beating them makes no sense to me, they are after all still kids. If this were my kid, I would make sure that woman had no contact with children ever again. Her behavior was unacceptable for any reason you may want to afford her.

Yea let me be the one to point out that the boy was mixed, the girl was white, but the teacher was black.  Let's get it straight if you're going to make it a race issue....

1
No pity

what a jerk, yeah sure it was all racial the kid was beat cause he was black and the little girl was white yeah thats it everything in this country can be balemed on racial differnces right? (seems you ignored the fact that the teacher that beat his but was also black kinda blows a hole in that "it was racial" theory you have going)People these days seem to want to use race instead of looking at the real issues, like the fact that kids have zero respect for adults or anyone else for that matter these days and parents dont want to take the blame/responsibilty when their kid turns out to be an a-hole, it's much easier to blame someone else rather than take a long look in the mirror and see the person who is really to blame isnt it?  I bet the mother of that kid has not even taken one second to think about how her kid acts or what he did that brought this on. HE IS NOT INNOCENT

1
Ms. G

Kids are bad.  Little punk needed a butt whooping.  If mommy doesn't do it, someone will. HPD won't waste the sweat, they'll just shoot him.    Race has nothing to do with it; the teacher is Black, too....  If you raise your kids, the teachers won't have to...

Whether he was trying to hit a girl or not, that teacher has no right to hit him, let alone beat him up like
