Five 7-year olds were rushed to the hospital yesterday when a teacher confronted them about some small packets she observed them handling. Subsequently police stated the packets contained the Schedule I narcotic, heroin. Letters were sent out to parents informing them of the incident.
Five second grade boys from a school in South Philadelphia were taken to the hospital Tuesday after a teacher found them to be in possession of heroin in gym class.
Authorities say a physical education teacher at McDaniel Elementary School at 1901 S. 23 Street noticed the children in his class handling small packets containing an unknown substance.
The teacher confiscated the packets and police were notified.
The School District says the packages contained heroin.
"Those students that may have touched those objects were isolated and taken to Children's Hospital just for observation. There were no injuries or sickness that we know of," said Philadelphia Police Lt. Frank Vanore.

This story is relatively old news by now, but I am just reporting in, that while I am sorry that this story made the national news at least it was recorded as a story correctly. Yes, from what I saw on the TV news, this event happened in Philadelphia. The situation must now be corrected, for the sake of the children.
