Ted Stevens & Sean O'Keefe in Alaska Plane Crash
Former Senator Ted Stevens & ex-NASA head Sean O'Keefe in Plane Crash Near Dillingham, Alaska
A DeHavilland DHC-3T plane carrying eight people crashed near Dillingham, Alaska. According to the FAA, five people aboard the plane were killed and one was injured. On board the plane were former US Senator Ted Stevens and former NASA boss Sean O'Keefe.
It's not clear at the moment if Ted Stevens or Sean O'Keefe survived. Ted Stevens served in the Senate from 1968 until 2008, and served as Secretary of the Navy under President George HW Bush. Sean O'Keefe is currently CEO of EADS North America, a plane manufacturer.
Ted Stevens was on a fishing trip with his former staff and some of their family members. The plane crashed in a remote area near Dillingham, which is 325 miles south of Anchorage.
Half of those aboard the plane were killed in the crash and a doctor was apparently on the scene, though rescuers were having trouble reaching the site because of bad weather, the congressional source said, declining to be further identified.
