Teen Arrested After Threat of School Shooting in Montreal

A teenage boy has been arrested for threatening to go on "a shooting rampage" at one of Montreal's biggest colleges.

The CEGEP du Vieux Montréal was closed yesterday in response to the threat, however, police searched the campus without finding anything, and no incident occurred.

A 16-year-old boy from St. Jean sur Richelieu has been arrested after threats made on the Internet closed CEGEP du Vieux Montréal yesterday.

"The boy was arrested shortly after 4 o'clock," Montreal police Constable Lynne Labelle said yesterday. "A search of his house is being done to see if there are any firearms or any evidence that he was capable of carrying out the threats."

The teenager was in custody yesterday afternoon but no charges had been laid, police said.

The CEGEP, on Ontario St. E. near St. Denis St., is one of Montreal's biggest colleges.

The school was closed yesterday after police in Cincinnati learned from an Internet chat room that someone was threatening to go on a shooting rampage

The online threats were made late Monday, when the CEGEP was closed.
