TORONTO — Toronto Police are investigating a shooting on a subway train at Spadina station.
Police were called to the scene at 8:48 p.m. after reports of gunfire, where one victim, believed to be a female, was found bleeding on the Northbound train.
Toronto EMS said responding paramedics found one woman bleeding from the leg. She was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. EMS officials said they could not confirm that the victim had been shot.
Yellow police tape cordoned off the sidewalk entrances to the subway on Spadina Avenue for more than 90 minutes.
Police said they are looking for a suspect and that the investigation is continuing.
Subway service has been suspended along the north-south, Yonge-University-Spadina line between St. Clair West Station and St. George Station, according to the TTC website. However the Bloor-Danforth line, running east-west, is still running and making stops at Spadina.
Police were escorting passengers who exited eastbound and westbound trains out of the station.
Police at the scene said that portion of the route would remain closed until at least Saturday morning while investigators combed the scene. Shuttle buses are running along the route.
