Here in the UK what we all say is that it is about time Judges get hard on crime well that is what Judge Brain Barker just did by sending a message to teenagers who see the world from their own point of view.

"]

Kevron Williams, 17, who was convicted of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, was given four years' youth detention.

He had punched Martin to the ground and stabbed him in the buttocks with a screwdriver during the chase.

Judge Brian Barker, the Common Serjeant of London, said: "The public have every right to be concerned about the increase and growth of this sort of violence.

"It is a tragedy that this sort of triviality caused such a young man to lose his life and has caused enduring heartache to his friends and family."

Chin stabbed Martin after being knifed twice himself during a series of flare-ups between the two groups.

The judge told him: "This was a vengeful attack out of all proportion to what may have gone on before and no mercy was shown."

As well as attacking the shopkeeper, Chin also had a criminal record for possessing a snooker ball in a sock and threatening a man with a hollow bar.

The court heard Martin - who lived on a housing estate where there was rivalry with youths on another estate - had been "entirely without blame" during the final confrontation

His mother, Lorraine Dinnegan, said in a statement: "Martin was a charming, loving boy who has left us with cherished memories that will remain with us forever.

"The pain that Martin's death has caused for our family is indescribable. Life will never be the same, a piece of our heart has been taken.

"We as a family will never make sense of the unnecessary suffering that was
inflicted upon Martin.

"It was extremely sad to be burying Martin at the tender age of 14.

"We thank God for the strength that He has given us throughout this whole unimaginable experience."

She said days before he died, Martin - the second of five children - had written a piece of homework about a man who was chased by a group and left for dead by the side of the road.

Martin was a lovely boy,he was like the annoying younger brother at times,he would like winding the girls up,he was a funny boy, never upset or down and would always try to lighten the mood.He was never angry or annoyed and the only time he ever became angry was when people started trouble with his friends, its just too bad, nobody was there to help him when he needed it that day.

joseph chin wasnt even stabbed,he had two mini cuts which could have even been self inflicted. If his stab wounds were that bad,he wouldnt have been able to carry on following martin.

kevron williams stabbed martin twice, his actions stopped martin from being able to get away, four years is pathetic. If it were a minimum of 4 years,it could be forgiven but 4 years in this country will mean 2 years and he had already served 1.so 1 year for attempted murder and accessory to murder - its pathetic.

the two other boys aquitted, are known in the area, they have always been in trouble and were also accessory to murder yet they are free to roam the streets.

our community has lost a good boy,a hardworker, loyal friend,a boy who didnt drink or smoke or get into trouble
