Ten killed as train crashes into truck in Bangladesh

At least 13 people were killed and 45 others were injured as a train with several passengers travelling on its engine collided with a truck at an unmanned railway crossing in north-western Bangladesh on Tuesday.

At least 13 people, including three women and two children, were killed as a train hit a sand-laden truck in Joypurhat today (Tuesday).

Thirty-seven others also sustained injuries in the accident.

Identities of the victims could not be known immediately.

The accident took place around 12noon when the Khulna-bound train from Chilahati rammed the truck at Kaliabari railway crossing in Joypurhat sadar upazila as it was trying to cross the railway line, leaving eight people dead on the spot, our Dinajpur and Bogra correspondents report quoting witnesses.

Two more died on way to Joypurhat Adhunik Hospital while two others after admitting to the hospital and another succumbed to his injuries in Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra.

Of the injured 17 were admitted to the Bogra hospital while others at the Joypurhat hospital.
