Teramo - A lovely place to visit in Abruzzo Italy

.
Teramo or more rarely Interamnium is a city in the central Italy. It is located in the Province of Teramo in the Abruzzo Region. The town is situated near the confluence of the Vezzola and Tordino Rivers. Due to its beauty and wonderment the town of Teramo is often referred to as “La Cenerentola d’Abruzzo” (The Cinderella of Abruzzo).
For a long period of time, Teramo rested on the border place between the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the Papal States and therefore acquired a distinct identity. Largely because of the difficulty with communications to the other parts of Italy, it also remained fairly isolated. The completion of a tunnel under the Gran Sasso mountain allowed Teramo to increasingly move away from this isolation.
The economy of the town is mostly based on activities connected with agriculture and commerce, as well as a sound industrial sector: textiles, foods, engineering, building materials and ceramics. Taking the Autostrada A14 Teramo can be reached about two hours by car from Rome.
Monuments of the city include the majestic Cathedral of San Berardo, the Romanesque church of Saint Anthony, and the sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie (also known as Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie).
In the center of town is Parco Ivan Graziani, a large public park area. A train line leads from Teramo to Giulianova which lies to the east on the Adriatic Sea. The railway station is located on the southeastern perimeter of the historic city center.

Teramo is well known for one of its “frazioni” (suburbs), Valle San Giovanni, home of the guesthouse, Casale. Other highly regarded frazioni include Rapino, Villa Tordinia, and Travazzano. In the center of the town is the main walking street, Corso San Giorgio.

Teramo is fast becoming known as a city easily navigated by bicycle. Teramo has a large contingent of bicycle fans as well as a blog, Abruzzo in Bici, dedicated to the development of this hobby and means of transportation. One town near Tearmo has recently taken these efforts to heart. The Commune of Roseto, a beach resort on the Adriatic Sea, is about to begin a bicycle sharing program. The initiative is called “Roseto in Bici” (Roseto on Bicycles) and is designed to reduce traffic congestion and difficulties with finding a parking space. The project will begin the purchase of 100 bicycles, these available without cost to those who become members. Locks and chains for security will accompany the bicycles. There is a free phone number 800 251240 for those interested in the joining. More information at TeramoNews (in Italian).
