Teresa Lewis Prepares For Her Execution, Orders Last Meal
Teresa Lewis is Set to Die By Lethal Injection at 9pm Tonight at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt Virginia
Those opposed to her execution are hoping she will be granted a last minute reprieve, but Lewis is preparing for her death all the same. Sky News reports that Lewis ordered fried chicken, sweet peas and Dr. Pepper with either German cake or apple pie for her final meal.
Teresa Lewis could become the first woman to be executed in Virginia for almost 100 years if the execution goes ahead.
Lewis paid two men to kill her husband Julian Clifton Lewis and her stepson Charles J. Lewis and after offered herself and her then 16-year-old daughter for sex. She gave the two gunmen Rodney Fuller and Matthew Shallenberger the murder weapons and watched while they shot her husband and stepson in 2002 in Pittsylvania County. Lewis then delayed calling the police for an hour and went through her husband's pockets while he lay dying.
Both Rodney Fuller and Matthew Shallenberger were sentenced to life in prison, and Shallenberger committed suicide there in 2006. Teresa Lewis' daughter Christie Lynn Bean served five years for knowing about the murders but not saying anything to anyone.
Lewis' supporters say the execution should not go ahead because testing has shown that Lewis is 'borderline mentally retarded' with an IQ of only between 70 and 72, and they say that makes the execution unconstitutional.
They also say she has a personality disorder and was manipulated by Matthew Shallenberger.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claims the execution of Lewis reflects a double standard. He compared coverage of the Lewis case to the "heavy propaganda" campaign in support of an Iranian woman who had been sentenced to be stoned to death for adultery.
