Thanks Esta for updates. ...
Now here is the Punch line.
“The day is not far when Islamabad will be in the hands of the mujahideen,” Pakistani Taliban commander Mullah Nazeer Ahmed said in an interview with al Qaeda’s media arm, al-Sahab.

Taliban....Taliban and Taliban....how come they become so powerfull.Who is supporting the organisation, from where they mobilise resourses. And answer will definetely.....hurt the religious sentiment.

the answer wont hurt the religious sentiments. sadly its not that simple
the question is a valid one though. my understanding is
Pakistan is supporting old Mujahideen like Hikamyar for its intersts in Afghanistan
India is supporting Taliban in SWAT and Baloch nationalist terror groups with full US support and knoweldge to get back at Pakistan for its Kashmiri support
US is delibrately ignoring Mehsud in its drone attacks since Mehsud is only creating problems in Pakistan.
the murky world on international politics subversions it not based on moral prinicples but only on self interests and strenghtening national interests.
Pakistan, India and USA all know very well what double and quadruple games each one of them is playing against each other in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I think it.s time for the US State Department to sit down and reasess the whole conflict in Afghanistan and the impact of Pakistan on this conflict. Apparently the West is not winning the hearts and minds of the people in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. I agree with Amitjha that the key is to finding out where the funding and support for the Taliban is coming from. I doubt that a surge in Afghanistan of 17,000 will have any effect with a well organizd enemy, such as the Taliban until resources flowing to the Taliban can be stopped.
