Terry Jones' Dove World Outreach Center: What Is It?
Dove World Outreach Center: Terry Jones' Church of Hate
Dove World Outreach Center, run by Terry Jones, is at the center of the "International Burn a Quran Day" controversy. DWOC is a small fringe church, with a membership of around 50 people, located in Gainesville, Florida. Their website mentions "the end times" in the very second sentence, and the right-hand block of the site is dominated by a link selling Terry Jones' "Islam is of the Devil" book. A link for the Koran burning has been shoehorned below the site's masthead.
- 'Burn a Quran Day' Met with Outrage
- IRS Probe Sought for Dove World Outreach Center
- Westboro Baptist Church to Picket Ronnie James Dio Funeral
Dove World Outreach Center was founded in 1986 by Donald Northrup and Richard Wright, and leadership was assumed by Terry Jones in 1996. The Gainesville church complex has a religious school, called the Dove World Outreach Academy, whose students are sequestered from the outside world, and work to pack furniture for TS and Company, which is owned by Terry and Sylvia Jones.
Terry Jones' daughter, Emma Jones, broke with the church, calling it a cult, and accusing her father and stepmother of a series of financial and labor abuses.
Emma Jones and Heinz Koop - a former church elder in Germany - say church members confronted Terry and Sylvia Jones with an itemized list of alleged abuses such as a car purchased by the church for their son, salaries paid by the church for TS and Company employees and donated furniture that was sold for profit.
After the accusations, Terry and Sylvia Jones - who from 2001 to 2008 had divided their time between living in Gainesville and living in Cologne - left Cologne permanently in 2008.
Calling itself a "New Testament Church", the Dove World Outreach Center blog is full of posts about what it hates (mainly Islam and homosexuality), all the while saying that it loves people. You be the judge. I'm not linking to their site, as we consider their content to be hate speech, and it violates our TOS.
Terry Jones' organization was last in the news for its series of anti-Islam lawn signs: Jones seems to both really hate Islam, and to really enjoy being on the nightly news.

Is the Terry Jones cult like the one time Jones cult that used kool aid to kill? True Christians do not react in the way Terry Jones and his followers do out of hate, and if Jesus walked the earth would not accept his actions. If people read our Bible though and though would find violence equal to the koren. Many versus are the same. Terry Jones harbors the same hate as the supposed Christian that was behind the 9/11 attack, and also the same hate of the once leader of Germany in 1930 against the Jews. As I pointed out, True religious Christians do not harbor hate within. Jones is a Hypocrite . People like him, the KKK, Beck, and such are leading us right down the road to a Fascist Police State. Another Germany of 1930.

read your BIBLE again! It teaches love and peace. People made choice for violence. Glen Beck does not teach violence, but he is wrong on his way to GOD,only through JESUS can you get to GOD

People, this is about freedom of speech, done.... will we be silenced because of potential terriost response? We can't let our fear drive a silence.

Dr. Chavez .. this is is NOT mainly about freedom of expression, but about a more fundamental human quality: the freedom conscience to be addressed (usually called freedom of conscience). A misguided libertarian principle supposes that the justification of any action lies in the freedom to do it; but it is certainly not a Christian one. The incendiary action of burning Qurans is highly irresponsible and unconscionable because it is a radical contradiction of Christian principles. Christins may suffer persecutions (and make passioned appeals to conscience); but inciting hatred of a religion by desecrating what it holds sacred is NOT something that Christian conscience permits, notwithstanding the freedom to do so.

Muslims, christians, in my experience they and most other followers of religions are full of narrow-minded bigots. You idiots are what holds civilisation back.

That's the best response you got? I agree with Adrian. I dream of the day when people grow up and realize all religions are dissolved. Religion breeds hate, bigotry, ignorance and narrow-minded behavior. It breeds wars and is the root cause of 95% of all wars in the world. Face it. There is no god. So grow up, enjoy your life and accept all walks of life for what they are, life."God" is a ruse created by uneducated people thousands of years ago. There was no such thing as Jesus, or Mohammad. They are folk tales, urban legends. The bible is riddled with lies and was written BY MAN, not by god. Why do people blindly follow "faith" in such utter bullshit.True freedom starts with freedom FROM religion. Free yourself and your mind and let go of all religions. The world will finally be at peace once we all do this.

how the hell do you know that they don't exist? you must be an atheist. There was Adam and Eve, and King Solomon, Jesus, Muhammad. etc.did you read the Quran or the Bible?

You must realize that religion has caused alot of good in this world, since most of the actions for support and help during troubled times has been contributed by those with spiritual principal and not just those who live life thinking that everything was just created, like the chips and cookies that you eat and you think no one created it.You must understand that religion all around the world dictates good doctrine and it is the negligent human side with ego and power that changes those understanding for their own benefit for power and status. And most certainly I would call these individuals the non-believers because everything revolves around them and their own ego. The war that we see is only a political benefit full of lies, thinking that religion is the cause of it, when in fact is all about money, power and gains.Don't be blinded by the truth that you are a guiney pig in this world and you are owned by the banks and you will continue to be a salve to the bank and all the propaganda that continues to tell you to buy and buy, and everything else is wrong.Good deeds and actions which have shown in many research papers to be the cause of good have come through religion and not through people who just sit there and says enjoy life, spend all you money, don't think about anyone else and just piss on this world like many who have done it and damaged the environment. The reality of things is that the only way we can bring happiness to the world is through good deeds and sacrifice for each other, otherwise we will consume this world and we will continue to become hungry atheist idiots who only care about themselves rather than believing, giving and caring for each other, which its root come from religion in a non-fanatic way.

I do not think this is what Jesus had in mind when he was nailed to the cross for his children. When he said "Lord forgive them fore they know not what they do". We do know what we are doing and it is very sad that it comes to this. What are you saying to our children the next generation its ok to hate thy neighbor, its ok to throw stones, its ok to offer the Lord praise based on hatered. You are no better than those who burned our US Flag. Were did we leave our PRIDE to be and AMERICAN? How do we send a message "WE THE PEOPLE" while we hang our heads in shame! No Dr. Jones this not what the Lord our God has asked us to do! Has there not been enough blood shed beginning with Jesus Christ. Can you carry the burden of even one AMERICAN that is harmed? Can you wash the blood from your hands with out a second thought or worse the harm or death of an innocent child because the message you will send on 9-11 is one of an unmerciful God! How dare you use God in vain!

Ok, don't burn the Islamic Comic, aka Q'uran. Use the pages, instead, to wrap pork chops, wipe our butts, (using only the left hand), and shine our shoes. They threaten violence? Does that mean 9/11, beheading Americans and countless suicide/homicides to date have not been violent? Good luck to
at 02:52 on September 8th, 2010
Why does it have to come to this? No matter you religion, you should be able to live with any other people. Islam teaches us about tolerance and equality, so be careful about what you say, you might just lay a curse you cannot wipe away from your head. meanwhile, if you wipe your butt with the Qur'an, your butt will swell for life. Peace.

If you were a man of faith you would not say a thing like that. By you saying something that horrible you must be an atheist. True Christians would never say a thing like that, instead they would defend the last religion revealed to mankind by God A.K.A -ALLAH-

Your note indicates an abysmal lack of knowledge of Islam. Firstly, on 9/11 there were an estimated 480 members of Al Quaeda worldwide. 16 of them - mostly Saudi Arabians and all followers of radical Osama binLaden (who had been disowned by his main family some time before). binLaden was based out of Afghanistan - which WAS our primary target until George W. Bush LIED to US citizens to start an illegal invasion of the sovereign country of Iraq. Also note on 9/12 when all other planes were grounded by Presidential order a transcontinental military jet left US airspace with ALL of Osama binLaden's family aboard - flown to safety courtesy of GWB who owed the Saudi gov't approximately 2 billion dollars for bankrupting 2 oil companies.Because GWB called for a 'crusade' and did not stop at toppling Hussein but went on to destroy much of Iraq, calling in paid assassins (Blackwater) and setting up rendition sites in 4 countries where citizens of Iraq, kidnapped from their home were taken for torture. Photos of the torture of Iraqis and defacement of the Koran led to at first tens - and then hundreds of thousands - of men (and some women) leaving their homes around the world, some walking thousands of miles to fight the invaders (US) in Iraq who were also attacking Islam. We spent 1.2 trillion (most borrowed from former enemy China) to make war in Iraq. We destabilized the region, let Iran loose to gain nuclear capability and have finally returned to Afghanistan to fight the Taliban, Al Quaeda and binLaden. Muslims only fight those who attack them first. That is the law of the Koran. The United States has, in fact, attacked several countries and assassinated world leaders since 1952 creating groups such as the Taliban and Al Quaeda. In 1952 we assassinated the democratically elected president of Iran to put in our puppet dictator, the Shah. THEY remember very well life under our dictator: torment, torture and the fact the Shah stole over 3 billion dollars of their money when he fled after the overthrow by Islamic fundamentalists (their Tea Party).Muslims treat their Koran as the printed absolute & true Word of G-d. (Allah). Many handle their books with gloves. Copies are handed down from generation to generation in the same pristine condition; not a tear, not a wrinkle, not a fingerprint - which few if any Christians can lay claim. There are 1.2 billion - roughly 1:6 persons in the world are Muslim. Less than .002% are members of the radical insurgency: much like of the 2.6 billion Christians less than .002% are radicals such as Terry Jones who runs a cult & is a known thief and embezzler or those nuts who ask their congregants to pack guns to church (can one imagine Jesus going to synagogue with a .44 magnum?)or go around blowing up abortion clinics and shooting abortion doctors right in front of their children or in houses of G-d.EVERY religion has its radicals. It doesn't matter the denomination. EVERY political party has its nut cases (Michelle Malkin, Sharon Engel & Glenn Beck come to mind). Regardless of the situation there are always those who cannot accept facts even when presented with hard evidence. 'Creationists' deny all fact of evolution or the fact the universe is 4.2 billion years old. They prefer to invent a G-d who makes fools of his creations by creating a world where things are magically aged. Texans wish to rewrite history to exclude the courage of Dr,.Martin Luther King JR & all those who marched for civil rights, claiming it's was whites who gave black their civil rights out of the goodness of their hearts and eliminating all mention of the numerous lynchings, beatings and denial of voting rights blacks suffered. [FYI I'm a white minister. I remember as a child being yanked back from the 'wrong' water fountain: I'd almost taken a sip from a black fountain and my father had to explain to me that eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit was 'dangerous' for even a white child who was thirsty to drink from the 'wrong' fountain. I remember riding the bus and wishing I could sit in the back - but that was where blacks had to ride. I recall my first nursing school where there was only one black student - and she was there because she had passed the stringent entry requirements yet many students refused to believe she'd gotten in on her own merits. [That school closed a year later rather than be forced to accept students who did not pass the entry test. Our dean did not believe in equal rights by quotas.]I have a degree in theology and have studied ancient customs and languages. I understand what these ancient terms mean - whether it be in the Koran or the Bible. Taken out of context they do sound rather grim, but if one understands that the person is always called upon to let G-d be the judge & jury one can realize we are not called to violence. In fact, in MT 5: 38-47 Jesus forbids us from violence of any kind against anyone for any act, real or perceived.Jones is a cultist, a racist, a hate-monger, a criminal and a fool. Hopefully the Muslim world will listen to the outcry of those who speak against him rather than take the actions of this demonic man seriously. Your comments, however, are as bad as those of Jones. Even if YOU do not ascribe to another belief system you should at least permit these persons their right under the Constitution to enjoy freedom to practice that religion without bullying, nasty comments, attacks of any type or infringement to live in peace. You are free to believe what you want: you are NOT free to infringe on another person's right to choose their own path to the Almighty G-d. Your rights end where their nose begins as my father, a war vet used to say. I sent my son to the US Marines where he chose a non-combat position in counter-intel. He only took out his rifle to qualify annually per regulations as a sharpshooter (as all Marines must). He told them from the outset he wanted to serve America but he would not kill anyone for any reason. His actions in several cases saved lives. He lives the Gospel as I taught it to him: that all men should live in peace. That we do not kill, steal, commit adultery etc. We must care for this planet (it was the first job G-d gave to mankind was to tend to the Earth). We must live in peace with all. Perhaps if we did that as Americans we wouldn't be worrying about bombs, terrorists etc. We have a bad habit of trying to ram our opinions down others' throats. We demand gays not get married: yet MOST of those who are picketing are adulterers and divorcees whose own marriages have failed. Why not fix heterosexual marriage before we worry about a few gay men or women living together? I'm sure G-d is big enough and powerful enough to sort out the sinners. We have people who demand ALL abortion stop - but they also want to refuse prenatal care to the moms & then once the baby is born refuse to help care for the little ones. We have people who parade around screaming about the Right to Life - while packing a gun or carrying signs supporting the death penalty. [Twice G-d Himself handled death penalty cases in the Bible: Cain, whom He marked so NONE would harm him and the woman caught in adultery - and Jesus was speaking to US (as the last modern nation to have executions) saying 'let the one who has never sinned cast the first stone. We've been involved in war for over 70 years. Most of them were caused by our own government interfering in other nations' business. If we paid more attention to our own borders and stopped trying to force our way down the throats of the world we might have peace. Christians fight over whose brand of Christianity is more 'right'. The House of G-d is fighting bitterly for first seat at the table. I think the Amish will most likely be the ones seated at the head of the banquet table, for they live the gospel fully every day. They help everyone who is in need. They never sit on juries (for Christ forbade us to judge our neighbor). They will not serve in war. (though they will staff hospitals and bake food for the hungry. When that gunman killed their children in Ohio a few years ago they forgave him and even invited the mother of the killer to their funeral service (usually closed to outsiders) and to the feast after wards to celebrate their children joining Jesus in heaven. When EVERY Christian lives like that we can cast aspersions at other religions. Until then, those who live in glass houses should not cast bricks at others. Or their faith. Or their chosen book of worship.

Now that is what a Minister of Any Faith should be telling his followers, I commend you and hope your ministry has great prosperity.

Thank you! There are alot of us that have similar sympathies. Unless you have read the entire Bible, Qur'an, Torah then you should not make disparaging remarks against the religion. Any verse from any Holy Book can be taken out of context and made to sound as something bad or twisted. I am respectful of all religions even the ones I do not understand. Ultimately, there is but one ALMIGHTY. Calling him God or Allah or any other name is just a language thing. THERE IS BUT ONE ALMIGHTY. Ultimately we are ALL praying to the same Higher Power. (PS you must be so very proud of your son!!)
at 08:42 on September 9th, 2010
KegAnn Peters: You wrote"Ultimately, there is but one ALMIGHTY. Calling him God or Allah or any other name is just a language thing. THERE IS BUT ONE ALMIGHTY." This is so true. The name god is called by is nothing but a human thing. Mans own attempt to make God his own property.

Rev. Maralee R. Koval, While I to Agree and have quoted Chapter 5 of the Book of Matthew and do believe that God has admonished we Christians not to retaliate or resist anyone who wishes to harm us, I have to say that your statement that most of the wars we have been for more than 70 yrs were the fault of our governmenttrying to ram our ideals and beliefs down the throat of the woprld is not taotaly true. You further state that if we concerned ourself with our own borders and our own House we would not have the trouble we have now, That to, is not totaly true.Have you forgotten the events leading up to our involvement in WW II. Our President at the time tried and tried to keep us out of that war and to have us worry about our own borders and our own House so to speak. right up to the dastardly attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Not every one sees the world thru your rose colored glasses. I commend your Son for his beliefs and as I am also an honorably discharged US Marine I have been able to witness first hand several different cultures and beliefs from arround the world. I try to live my life as Jesus taught us to live. I am not against any one believing in and worshiping their GOD as they see fit even if they do not believe in God. a Persons sexual persuasion is NO ONES business and they have to reconcile with God at the final judgement day. I DO NOT condone the senseless killing of Babies via abortion NOR do I condone the blowing up of clinics or killing of Drs that perform abortions. I am against the use of abortions as the sole means of Birth control since there are man many effective and simpler ways to handle NOT getting Pregnant in the first palce. Our country is a far cry from what our founding fathers invisioned when they came here in search of freedom to worship God as they saw fit. Most of the framers of the Decleration of Independance and the Constitution were either Quaker or Other non Anglican church affiliation. Unfortunately Man himself has created the various Religions and sub religions. God did not say this grop or that group would be this religion or that religion or this denomination or that denomination that was mans doing because man has an inherant need to be bigger than anything else. Man has an inherant need to be in control to be the framer of his world. All God said is "you will have no other God before me" that sounds like he wanted all of us in the human race to worship HIM and only HIM. Man is the one that decided that was not good enough and started dividing up God and giving him Different names and was to ignorant to realize they were talking about the Same GOD. A GOD of LOVE and forgiveness, and Peace. I for one do not think God wants this division and strife on HIS planet, I do not think God is pleased with how we have treated his Planet to this point. Man as a whole has not been good stewards of the Property of God. We constantly waste resources, we constantly Destroy his creations, and we arogantly ignore his teachings. With that said I do agree that Mr Jones is a poor excuse for a minister. I have yet to finds out who actualy Ordained him. Is he one of the self proclaimed Ministers or worse yet a minister ordained by fictional internet churches. I find it hard to beleive that any minister would ever carry a gun on him even after recieving death threats. Did not Jesus tell his deciples to put down their swords in the Garden the night he was taken into custody to be tried and crucified for our sins. I have never read anywhere in the BIBLE that Jesus took up anykind of weapon for any reason. God Bless you and may his blessings flow to you and your family

Dear Perry, now you are just showing how some people can be so ignnorant. Who do you think you are, hein? Think of something (if you can think, of course): if all the people in the world think they're right, somebody are, logically, wrong. Probably all the people are so. Relligion makes the world just go down becouse they are, almost ever, hypocrite against all the differences between people. Say something, if jesus really was who people believe, would he teach things like that?
at 11:13 on September 9th, 2010
oh......ok. how angry will you get when we sh!t on your holy book or whatever religion you have. if a man from your religion steals and kidnaps a girl doesn't mean your whole religion is like that. SAME WITH ISLAM!
at 22:51 on September 10th, 2010
seriously dude, there are hundreds of millions of muslims. and hundreds of millions of christians. there are crazy sects in both religions. there are some islamic and christian cults that are farther away from the original faiths than those two faiths are from each other. your use of the word "they" is completely ignorant. "they" threaten violence. guess what? "they" are not all muslims everywhere. do all christians bomb clinics? do all christians hang black people from trees and light crosses on fire on their lawns? do all christians molest the children they are supposed to lead to worship? no. but some christians do. christians have been perpetrators of some of the worst violence in history. this whole thing is just more hate. it has nothing to do with faith.
