The Tettegouche Arch in Tettegouche State Park Has Collapsed in to Lake Superior
Jim Bischoff, a park specialist, spoke to the Duluth News Tribune and said that although they do not know when exactly the Tettegouche Arch would have collapsed, considering how popular the structure is, it would have been no more than a couple of days ago.
“Definitely within the last week, but probably in the last couple of days or we would have heard about it sooner, considering how well photographed that site is,” Bischoff told the News Tribune on Sunday.
The Tettegouche Arch was carved out of solid rock by the water action of Lake Superior over thousands of years, but it seems as if the collapse was caused by wear and tear.
“There was no big wind or waves or storm. I think it was just time for it to go after how many hundreds or thousands of years,” Bischoff said. “That’s just geologic progression. We had an arch, now we have a sentinel” pillar of rock on the shore.
These photos show the Tettegouche Arch before and after the collapse. The park is located near Illgen City in Minnesota.

Wow, and these two pics were just taken last month. I'm glad I got them. I always wanted sunrise pics of the place. www.flickr.com/photos/jaylarson/4916320491/ & www.flickr.com/photos/jaylarson/4807137225
