Texas Chainsaw Massacre True Story
Despite being heavily touted as "inspired by a true story," both Tobe Hooper's original 1974 film and the 2003 Marcus Nispel remake are only lightly based on the real-life murderer Ed Gein, who is suspected to have taken several victims between 1954 and 1957. Perhaps the most recognizable similarity is the film's house, whose gruesome content was similar to that found in Ed Gein's home (above right) in 1957.

Is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre a true story?
Yes and no..but i prefer to think it's not a true story..
The movie thing never happened...there was never a man running around with a chainsaw and going to a house full of rednecks and who pretended to be a sheriff etc.
There was a man in fact named ED GEIN who would kill people and cut off there faces and wear it (sometimes having sex with the dead bodies) but he never had a family that helped him. He wasn't huge, just normal size. They based Leather face off him and also Hannibal Lecture..What do you think???
