Texas Fight Club Busted In State School For Mentally Disabled
After watching clips on TV about this fight club it was very disturbing. Recordings from a lost cell phone is how the police found out. I hope this opens eyes to Administrators of these facilities. Cameras need to be in all mental health facilities and nursing homes. These are the places where abuse is the highest, there is no one there to protect them when you have people like the eleven people that where working the nights like those eleven.
Warrants have been issued for six employees of a state school for the mentally disabled in Corpus Christi, Texas for organizing after-hours fights between mental patients and then videotaping them creating movies that land somewhere between Fight Club and One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. The warrants were issued for Jesse Salazar, 25; Guadalupe Delarosa, 21; Vince Johnson, 22; Dangelo Riley, 22; Timothy Dixon, 30; and Stephanie Garza, 21. Garza, is the only one not being charged with injury to a disabled person, a third-degree felony. “She stood by while the others did it,” Corpus Christi police Capt. Tim Wilson told the press, so she is charged with failing to inform anyone that the brawls occurred.
Eleven employees, four of whom left their jobs before this came to light, were visible on the confiscated cell phone videos that were first turned in to a security officer at the hospital. After observing several videos on the phone, the officer handed it over to a forensics unit who found more videos on the phone’s memory. All in all, 20 videos were found dating back to 2007. They don’t show anyone getting hurt or upset, but employees are heard laughing and cheering on their severely mentally disabled patients, encouraging them to wrestle and push one another.

(CNN) -- A Texas agency is installing videocameras and hiring security officers at a state school for mentally handicapped adults after allegations emerged that workers there staged "fight club" battles among residents. Admissions to the Corpus Christi State School in Corpus Christi, Texas have been suspended. A cell phone containing videos of the alleged abuse at the school was turned over to police last week, and authorities are expecting to file arrest warrants this week, Corpus Christi Police Capt. Tim Wilson said Tuesday. The incidents are believed to have taken place in a school dormitory, Wilson said, adding, "this has been going on for some time."
The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services also announced Tuesday that it is suspending admissions to the Corpus Christi State School in Corpus Christi.

The state is supposed to protect these people. This should never happen.

This is so upsetting to me, my sister is in Lufkin State School, Lufkin, TX. This year alone we have received notices that she has had 3 separate incidences of abuse. My mother is disabled and the state of Texas is currently trying to get her to take back custody of my sister. She is unable to care for her. My mother just hung up the phone in tears because she cant protect her child. Even though my sister is 39 years old, she has the mind of a 2 year old. She couldnt tell on an abuser if she tried. Her communication skills are very limited.
The people who hold these positions and are charged with caring for the mentally disabled should be closely monitored. Charges should be pressed against anyone who allows any type of violence towards any of the patients. One of the incidences with my sister, she was beaten by an employee. The employee was fired, no charges were pressed. May this employee rot in hell.
