Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry gave no specific examples of federal governent intrusion, oppression, or interference.

It is a sad state of affairs when States must pass resolutions reaffirming laws that are supposed to be already "guaranteed" by the individual State Constitutions and United States Constitution.

"I consider the foundation of the Constitution as laid on this ground: That "all powers not delegated to the United States, by  the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are  reserved to the States or to the people." [10th Amendment]  To take a single step beyond the boundaries thus specifically drawn around the powers of Congress is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any definition." - Thomas Jefferson:

"[The purpose of a written constitution is] to bind up the several  branches of government by certain laws, which, when they transgress, their acts shall become nullities; to render   unnecessary an appeal to the people, or in other words a rebellion, on every infraction of their rights, on the peril that their  acquiescence shall be construed into an intention to surrender  those rights." -Thomas Jefferson
