Some in Lone Star State want state to stand alone

Today,  the Texas Nationalist Movement  -  whose website motto reads,  Independence.  In our lifetime.  -  has announced its plans for the debut of its upcoming  national conference. The Texas Independence Conference 2010, or Texicon 2010, will take place March 13-14, 2010 at the Municipal Auditorium in downtown San Antonio.

The aim of the movement is to establish an independent Texas,  with an emphasis on Texas production and cultural strengthening.  This particular group calls itself 'Nationalist' rather than 'Secessionist',  but the groups have common uniting themes.  The "Texas Secede!"  group has been praised by Glenn Beck and many libertarians.

The two-day event will feature speakers on a wide array of subjects relating to Texas independence, including TNM president Daniel Miller and Dr. Thomas Naylor, the professor emeritus in economics from Duke University who heads up the Second Vermont Republic organization.

The Municipal Auditorium seats about 4,800 people. Organizers expect at least 2,000 attendees.

Events on Saturday will focus on whether Texas should seek independence from the U.S., can it achieve that goal, and how. Sunday’s programs will focus on activism training and formulating an independence action plan.

The event is open to not only Texas Nationalist Movement members, but to the general public as well. Anyone interested in exploring Texas independence as one option for the Lone Star State is welcome to attend. Public office holders of all parties are invited as well.

“It will provide some new info and perspective to current members and will be an invaluable event for anyone not sure whether they support independence, but are interested in the idea,” said Nate Smith of TX-Live, which is organizing the event.

Registration details will be posted soon on the TNM website atwww.texasnationalist.com., and a full agenda for the conference will be published as it becomes available.

Texans need to consider all the repercussions of Texas independence or succession or whatever they are chosing to call it.

Y'know, all this is good, but it reminds me of how a pusher will keep free samples flowing, in order to keep his addict hooked (and not out of the goodness of his heart mind you...)  The goodies also only intensify when the addict wakes up and starts to try to get off the drug...  Is it better to be in a luxurious, feel-good prison?  Or poor but free?  It's a fairly basic American question.  To secede also doesn't necessarily imply having a hateful relationship with the country you belonged to formerly.  See Czech Republic and Slovakia, who are fine neighbors now and yet enjoy running their own affairs.  They are also both growing in prosperity -- nothing says secession results in destitution.  The only party who isn't going to be able to take care of themselves is the addict, who, after being weakened and made dependent by the pusher, will have a hard time.  But genuine recovery can only occur when you put the drug down, get away from the pusher, cut the cord, pull out the drip, and take personal responsibility.

Ha!  That is great research,  A!  I'll bet they would not be too happy to have you show up at their convention...;)

hahahahah rng......good one.

As I have attempted to show a lot of people benefit from the Feds in Texas.  It's for the greater good.  At least thats my philosophy.

Its like car insurance.  ( Does not want to calculate the amount paid over my lifetime!)  You don't need it until you need it. : )

Ah,  you are right on every score,  A.   :)  ( Car insurance is evil....)

So what's the deal? These folks no longer want to be Americans? What will they be called? neo-Muricans, Texacins, Tex-Mexicans? Un-Americans? Help me out here.

Well,  they would be the Independent Republic of Texas.  Key West has thought of doing the same.

I think they tried that once before. Key West, well that's a different matter entirely. First they'd have to secede from the State of Florida. That would be a first. They could make Charlie Christ the President, he'd fit right in.

Well,  we know what Key West is notorious for...I think they say they would like to be called "The Conch Republic"

I live and work in San Antonio (though I'm originally from Northern California and did NOT choose to come here, Uncle Sam made that choice for me), and I can say....Let 'em.  I hate this stinkhole with a burning passion.

They say "everything's bigger" in Texas.  That's not true, unless you're referring to the level of ignorance, the percentage of horrible drivers, the number of illegal aliens, the number of uninsured unlicensed drivers, did I mention the arrogance yet?

This state is the single worst place I have EVER been.  Let them secede, I say.  We'll just carpet bomb 'em like we do everyone else :)

/endrant

You bring up great points, A.  Points that most of these ignorant, arrogant a-holes will ignore or try to talk away from.  Try living here a few years and you'll see what I mean.  If I hear one more idiot say 'Texas is the only republic in the U.S. so that gives them special rights'...I'm going to go postal (Anyone ever read a California State Flag before...?).

Ugh....

You must get out of Texas as soon as possible;  it is embittering you,  MBenson !  :(

1
MBenson82

Well thank whatever diety you choose, because next week I'll be starting the long drive back to California.  Ah, to be home again.

And yes, this state has greatly embittered me.

MBenson

If you are unhappy there, celebrate your flexibility to leave.  But there are many living there who need the benefits they receive from being part of the United States.  This successionist group is exercising their rights, but I doubt they could be a serious threat.

Welcome back to Northern California.

1
MBenson82

A, I never had the flexibility to leave until now :)  My knee problems have finally given Uncle Sam justification to relieve me of my obligations :)

You are absolutely correct, A, about the aid that the Fed gives to Texas.  What I'm not sure about is whether or not the people who have never lived or worked here truly understand the level of ignorance and arrogance that these people possess.  Flying the Texas flag above the US flag (a huge no-no), boasting of their rights as a republic, threatening secession everytime the president does something they don't like...I mean, it's hogwash, and it's disgusting.

Don't trust Glenn Beck. He will do a bait and switch. He is an FBI/CIA operative. He will put out correct info, then later after he has hooked you, dis-information. If you don't believe it, then look at the Hal Turner arrest case.Best to trust Alex Jones news only at infowars.com

It depends on who wants to secede.  Unfortuntely, the movement that wants to do so, is the loudest, crudest most bigoted, ignorant group of idiots that I have to share my Texas soil with.  Those ignoramuses act like we have more rights for independence than any other states, while it is Hawaii that probably has the greater cause to do so (and I don't see Hawaii in a big hurry to challenge it). Texas has so many wonderful things going for it that it breaks my heart to see this new breed of hatred being bred (yet again).  Our economy is hardly being driven by them either.  Most of our hard workers are from diverse backgrounds who want opportunity.  We can gripe about illegal immigration, but it is probably these lazy Klan pretenders that hire them to fix their roofs and till their gardens in the first place.  They embarass me, but they should also be exposed for what they are...losers and whiners and hate-mongers.  I'm for protesting at their convention.  Who wants to go with me?
