Texas Sovereignty with HCR 50?
At the time of this report, the discussion of state sovereignty within the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />United States of America has reached new levels with states introducing bills of sovereignty. Examples of states introducing bills are Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
One case that has been in the news has been Texas with its bill HCR 50 currently in the State Legislature. The purpose of the bill is for the Federal Government of the United States of America to respect the 10th Amendment to the Constitution which prohibits Federal Mandates “beyond its constitutionally delegated powers”.
HCR 50 has also states that Texas has “sovereignty over powers not enumerated by the Constitution” and wants the repeal of all Federal Programs that forces states by using threats. The Libertarian Party of Texas under its leader Pat Nixon has been supporting this legislation since there has been a general feeling that the Republicans and Democrats are “forcing socialism” on the people of Texas.
It is easy to blame the Obama Administration for the current talk about state sovereignty. Former Vice President Dick Cheney did that in his interview with CNN. It is also easy for the Obama Administration to blame the previous Bush Administration for such a sorry state of affairs.
Actually, the Republicans and Democrats have been blaming each other for the mess and polarization started by both parties. In the same way the US Mainstream Media have been silent or did not give objective news about Obama, the same has applied to Bush.
During the Bush Administration, the Democrats and media such as MSNBC and FOX were silent about the polarization that was occurring. They did not protest when Bush increased the size of government and limited the freedoms that once existed in America.
The same thing has happened under the current administration. There has been a feeling that the government and the country no longer represent certain people. It is easy to leave but that gives the governing elite in America more power. It is easy to accept the status quo but that would mean more government, intimidation, and less freedom.
The only solution would be for the people of the United States of America to ask for an opening of the political process which will include Libertarians as well as other parties. After all, there are almost fifty political parties in Iraq. It is surreal that the Governing Elite of the United States of America has attempted to export its version of freedom of democracy while repressing it at home.

Thanks for this Opinion piece, Alvarez! I am glad to read that I am not the only one thinking:

The elite loves power. It is their validation. Don't get in their way.
