A Bangkok emergency services headquarters official said, "223 people had been injured and had been rushed to 19 hospitals across the capital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. Almost all the dead were on the ground floor, where the stage was located. About 30 charred bodies were still inside the blackened, partially collapsed structure hours after the fire. Victims died from burns, smoke inhalation and injuries during the stampede to escape from the club, which had only one door for the public, police Maj. Gen. Chokchai Deeprasertwit said. Firefighters said a door at the rear was known only to the staff.
