There Actually is an Office of the President Elect!
Enacted by the 88th Congress of the United States of America in 1963, it serves as an office of liaison between the outgoing presidential administration and the newly elected president.
An excerpt from the Presidential Transition Act of 1963, Public Law 88-277:
"An Act
To promote the orderly transfer of the executive power in connection with the expiration of the term of office of a President and the Inauguration of a new President.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That this Act may be cited as the “President Transition Act of 1963”
PURPOSE OF THIS ACT
Sec. 2. The Congress declares it to be the purpose of the Act to promote the orderly transfer of the executive power in connection with the expiration of the term of office of a President and the inauguration of a new President...."

The individuals that serve as functionaries for the incoming administration during the transition of departure by the outgoing administration has come to be known as the Office of the President Elect, as a result of the above named act.
