They Have Done It Again

From Joyce's Ulysses quote "Hold to the now, the here, through which all future plunges to the past" we are supposed to embellish our present moments where ever one happens to be. It strikes me as somewhat ironic that at the time when Ulysses was written how one simple quote sums up what man's mortality really should mean. Some would say that the future is nothing more that history repeating. There is more truth to this than we know. So many times we are perplexed by the occurrences of the now.

Humanity should have learned from the past and yet the future continues to look more like the here and the now. When will we ever learn? In our own lives one should take great pains not to repeat mistakes made along the way. Now, it is the powers that be especially in Washington that continue to ignore the warnings of past mistakes only to impose policies that have time and time again failed to work. These budget cutting "Wizards" of bureaucratic indifference seem poised again to wreck havoc upon a nation still reeling in economic uncertainty.

It is these same budget cutting leaders of government who have only continued their onslaught that government spending is the ruination of our economy. Granted the overall budget is filled with expenditures befitting royalty. There are many duplications of agencies where funding that has been allocated could be consolidated or eliminated all together. Yet, a mostly Republican mindset in achieving reduction in governmental spending are always aimed at programs designed specifically to benefit the poor, for education, to feed the hungry and aid the sick.

The latest attack by these blood hounds of deficit reduction are oblivious to the economic reality of the now. They have again imposed their will over the general public in an orchestrated maneuver in keeping millions of Americans so impoverished just to say they have done the necessary steps in curtailing government spending. When in actuality all this budget cutting has done will have a more adverse affect on the economy and subsequently will cost more in the long run. The net result is a continuation of sequestered economic principals that would make more individuals unable to climb up that economic mobility ladder.

We have seen it all before where our entrusted governmental officials ignore the wishes of the general public by insisting on reducing funds for programs that would actually give a leg up as it were to people who just need a little assistance. This assistance would enable millions so that they too could climb up that ladder of economic mobility and be able to contribute to the economy. But that has not occurred. Instead this Republican led move to sequester government programs that would help they in turn have continually and blatantly refused to compromise. Now what is happening is these programs like in the past that do more to improve the economy are being gutted to the point that any progress in economic development won't happen.

The reverse Robin Hood mentality has prevailed for far too long. Practically every Republican led state joined by our Republican led wonders in Washington have inadvertently kept this country in economic limbo by virtue of their budget cut mentality. Meanwhile we the people are left without. In a time where our economic future is shaky at best we should be focusing on resolutions that worked in the past. Our grandfathers went through a Great Depression followed by a world war only to have the United States become the greatest economic engine in the world. Lessons from history would have a very significant impact today if only they were infused into a compromising role of governance.

It is time that our leaders of state become aware of what they actually do. We the people have an obligation to recall any elected official that refuses, ignores, or circumvents the will of the electorate. In reality it comes right down to every American to hold accountable elected officials. We have for too long let our elected officials reign supreme over their constituency. They have made it almost impossible for the general public to reign in the arrogance of individuals who continue to assert their authority under the guise of a public servant. It took a Great Depression and a world war to unite a country were policies implemented turned the tide for the rest of the world. lessons to be learned in history could do well to undue the damage caused by those bureaucrats that keep imposing their uncompromising agenda upon the American public.
