A vacationing couple from Wisconsin are appealing for the public's help after thieves stole their motorhome from a Vancouver street. Compounding their loss, all of the couple's valuable documents and mementos were inside the motorhome, as they have recently begun several years of travelling.
The theft is believed to have occurred overnight on August 1st, sometime between 11:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., from the 1800 block of Francis Street in Vancouver. The owners, a couple in their sixties, had sublet an apartment for the summer after making Vancouver their first stop in an extended road trip around North America.
While the value of the motorhome exceeds $100,000, the loss of personal documents and mementos has been even more devastating. The couple, along with police, are appealing for the public to keep an eye out for the distinctive motorhome in the hopes that it will be found sooner.
The vehicle is a Chevrolet G3500 Express Camper van, Road Trek Class B Unit, golden / brown in colour, with dark trim on the bottom. There is a black cargo box in the back and a TV antenna on the top. The van is 21 feet long and eight feet high, with a distinctive exhaust vent on the top and there is damage to the front bumper on the passenger side.
The van has Wisconsin licence plates "
RDTRPRS" (sounds like roadtrippers).
If anyone sees this stolen vehicle they are asked to call 9-1-1 and not approach the vehicle.

A happy ending to this story. The VPD just posted this:
Vancouver, August 6th - Vancouver Police are crediting the media today for helping to recover a stolen motor home belonging to a Wisconsin couple.
An alert citizen watching news coverage on the evening of August 5th realized that the stolen motor home featured in the story was similar to one parked in the 100 block of N. Slocan Street. Vancouver Police were called and the vehicle was confirmed to be the one belonging to the Wisconsin couple.
An inventory of the contents revealed that all of the valuable documents and personal papers thought to have been lost were in fact accounted for and only a few material items were missing. No suspects have been identified.
The VPD Auto Crime Enforcement Team is handling the investigation and the owner has since been informed of the recovery. He is making arrangements with police for the return of the vehicle."
