NP Rank:
Think of the Children!
Personally I am sick to the back teeth of that excuse being used. But, yet again it is - and this time to stop people smoking outside at public beaches and parks.
I must say that I am a smoker - but as a smoker I am getting decidedly a bit peeved that you can be fined up to $500 because you have the dreaded habit.
"The data shows that depending on the proximity to somebody smoking, how many people there are and the wind conditions … the effects to a child can be the same as second-hand smoke indoors," she said.
Mosher said outdoor smoking bans are needed to protect the health of children, but not every section of a park must be singled out. She cited the Dingle as an example.
"We would look at the canteen area where a child might be enjoying an ice cream and going to the washroom, and then the other area where we have a supervised beach and a playground," said Mosher.
In Nova Scotia you can't smoke with kids in the car, and this is the case in Ontario I believe - and if I remember the story correctly one guy was booked because he smoked and the girl with him was "under age" - while the RCMP officer was ticketing him - she got out a cigarette and sparked up - nuts!
Why, oh why don't government make smoking, chewing, anything relating to tobacco illegal?
The taxes and duty that they get from us smokers is one reason - and that is a lot of money. And this isn't a tax you can say "Well, I'm a little disjointed about all this criminalisation of ordinary citizens - I will stop paying may taxes!"
So - if we do have to pay our taxes for killing ourselves - I think it only right that we can smoke in the open air!
the effects to a child can be the same as second-hand smoke indoors," she said.
On CTV news she used the term "In a bar."
Yeah, so everything has to be geothermic, astro-full-proof, God laden, Jurassic and all that Jazz - and if it is a kid could get a whiff of a stale cig!
And that is why she is advocating cigs to be banned - outside - in the open air!
The world, or some parts of it - have gone stark raving bonkers!

I am not a smoker but I come from a family of smokers and I feel the bans are a bit unfair.
I can understand to an extent the bans in work places and food places, but smokers have rights too.

And how much taxes are fair on smokes? 100% 200%
You pay that now in some places...I understand that the higher prices for cig's will(probably) discourage use in kids. But. It doesn't stop kids from smoking, especially if their parents smoke (from all that I have seen)
Now, outlawing tobacco will do as much good as outlawing alcohol or pot. It will make otherwise law abiding citizens move into the black market to get what they want & are addicted to.

The taxes aren't going to stop, the bans aren't going to stop.
Once upon a time we could ask someone politely to please not light up around our asthmatic child. If you do that today you risk them pulling a weapon on you, or having all of their friends light up too. And laugh in your face until you leave.
Doesn't matter where you are or who was there first.
I'm certainly not saying this is true of most smokers, but how do you decide who will and who will not? Until we start treating others with respect and dignity more and more of our rights will be governed for us. Let the police handle the matter, if we are not able to police ourself. It is a ridiculous situation.
Maybe the fine should be used to allow the smoker to attend a smoking cessation program. We never have the time or money to spend on ourself until someone forces us to.

Yep, Canada and the USA are being overrun by Lefty Retards. Dont you friggin Americans have any Clock Towers near your legislatures? I would think some Remington Justice would be at hand! One day it may come to that in both our countries.
