Thomas Mortimer IV is Now in Police Custody After an Arrest Warrant Was Issued For Him in the Deaths of Laura Stone Mortimer, Ellen Ragna Stone, Thomas 'Finn' Mortimer and Charlotte Mortimer

Thomas Mortimer IV (photo) has now been captured by police as he is wanted in connection to the murder of his family including his mother-in-law Ellen, his four-year-old son Thomas and his two-year-old daughter Charlotte.

He was captured in Bernardston, about 100 miles from Boston, and has been charged with four counts of murder.

He was believed to have been driving a silver or light gray Toyota Highlander with the license plate 81V J58 (photo).

According to WBZTV, Middlesex district attorney Gerry Leone identified the victims and said they all lived in the Winchester house with Thomas Mortimer IV; he was the only one unaccounted for (video report).

Leone described the scene as horrific, disturbing and unspeakable.  He said it was not a random act.

More details about the deaths or the circumstances surrounding the bodies have not been released, but news outlets are describing the scene as 'horrific'.

Relatives had called the police after not hearing from the Mortimer family since Monday night, but the family's neighbors are just shocked at the events that appear to have taken place. According to Sandra Mortimer, Thomas' mother, she told WBZTV that she knew her son and Laura Mortimer were having marriage problems but she tried to stay out of it. She says her son is a 'really nice man' and was someone who loved his children more than anything.

If you have any information about this crime please call the Massachusetts State Police at 781-897-6600 or call the Winchester Police at 781-729-1214.
