'Buddha Boy" Re-Emerges

A teenage Nepalese boy claiming to be the reincarnation of the Buddha has re-surfaced after disappearing more than a-year-and-a-half ago. However, he has appeared this time at another location in the forests of Southern Nepal.

The teenager plans to preach to his devotees for a short time every day for a week, and then plans to return to the jungle to meditate.

Bomjan has been nicknamed "Buddha Boy" by the local media. He first started drawing crowds in 2005, when his followers said he meditated for months without food, water or sleep. Tens of thousands of people flocked to see him sitting cross-legged beneath a tree.

Thousands of people flocked to a remote jungle in southeast Nepal to see a boy, some believe is a reincarnation of Lord Buddha, who reappeared after missing for more than a year, police said on Tuesday.

Seventeen-year-old Ram Bahadur Bamjon spoke to devotees from nearby villages on Monday in the remote forest in Ratanpuri, 150 km (95 miles) southeast of Kathmandu, Prakash Sen, a police constable said.

Bamjon made international headlines in 2005 when tens of thousands of people turned up to see him sitting cross-legged under a tree in a dense forest for nearly ten months. reportedly without food and water.

The reincarnation claim of the young man has created ruffles in the Buddhist community and this has caused fissures within the community of Buddhist authorities.

However, the Buddhist priests and authorities are not so quick to extol the boy. There has been no formal declaration that this teenager is a “reincarnation” of Siddhartha Gautama, the “Buddha”. The original Buddha was born in 500 BC in Nepal. He was given the title “Buddha” which means the enlightened one.

Those who follow the Buddhist philosophy believe in reincarnation, a doctrine which asserts the preexistence of souls and their reappearance in multiple bodies. The claim that this young man is the reincarnation of the Buddha has been a cause of disagreement within the community of Buddhist authorities who evaluate such matters.

just to be fair i wanted to put that he hasn't called himself buddha, rather he's asked that people not call him buddha...he said that he does not have the energy of a buddha yet and based on that i got the impression that he himself does not believe that he's a reincarnation of siddhartha guatama, though that part is a bit more speculative.
