Threat of Totalitarianism in America

There are two ways in which totalitarian regimes come about. One - seen in cases of non-democratic previous governments - is through violent overthrow of the existing regime. The other - seen in cases of democratic previous governments - is through using the democratic institutions to subvert them to totalitarianism. The first is seen in the case of the Bolshevik Revolution. The second is seen in the rise of Nazism.

Hitler had used the democratic institutions of the Weimar Republic to take over and impose totalitarianism. There are entities in America at this time who are attempting to pull the same trick. And like Hitler, they come, not from the left, but from the Right.

These entities include, but are not limited to: Alex Jones; the Tea Party; and of course the Christian Right. All of the preceding are doing exactly what Hitler had done - appeal to previous orders and ways of existence, under false notion of what constitutes national greatness and national values, and while blaming the liberals, the feminists, the unions, and the minority religions, for the supposed dissolution of the same. And their goals are exactly the same as those of Hitler: To subvert democracy, impose totalitarianism, and wage a holocaust against everyone who does not buy into their party line.

There were not enough people confronting Hitler's lies, and there are not enough people confronting the lies of these would-be totalitarians either. And there should be. These people have many tricks up their sleeve, and many of their tactics are quite beyond those that were known in 1930s. Make no mistake about it. These people intend either to force you to be them or to kill you. And their false claims of being true Americans, or of valuing the Constitution, or of having democratic intent, are nothing but cynical manipulation by those who intend the extinction of the same.

The people who portray Obama as a totalitarian or a Communist are lying as such people do always. If Obama was a totalitarian or a Communist, then people who accuse him of being the same would be dead or in labor camps. That they are instead free to spread their propaganda, shows that Obama is neither the totalitarian nor the Communist that they accuse him of being. Whereas there have been many statements by people in the Tea Party camp and in the Christian Right advocating real totalitarianism, including imprisoning and murdering people who are not them.

It is time that the people of America wake up to this threat and know with what it is that they are being faced. And as one looks at these people scapegoating and slandering everyone - scientists, journalists, Jews, feminists, United Nations, liberals, environmentalists, Obama, Democrats - see what they have to offer, not just to these people, but to everyone else. Their intent is this: Totalitarianism against everyone; holocaust against everyone who would not accept their domination. And it is time that American people wake up to these people's true character and save themselves and their country from this very real totalitarian threat.

YES! I agree! The threat of totalitarianism in America is very real! And that threat is now in the White House. His name is Obama. How come you haven't mentioned him as a threat?  LOL! Why do you keep on writing about America? I, for one, would be much more interested in your views on your own country.

Unlike Bush, Obama is a legitimately elected president. As I've written in other articles, if he was actually a totalitarian that people like you claim him to be, then you and your buddies would all be dead or in labor camps. He has not done anything that remotely like that, so he is not a totalitarian. There have been many voices on the Right however who very much are advocating totalitarianism - including imprisoning or slaughtering those who are not them.

As for myself, I have lived for 18 years in America and some time outside of America. I have both the internal and the external perspective. This combination of perspectives allows greater insight than either perspective acting alone. It corrects the shortcoming of the merely internal perspective - not understanding external effects - and the shortcoming of the merely external perspective - not understanding the experience of the people within. Having had both perspectives, I understand both. And that allows a much more complete understanding of the American political landscape that is being discussed.

A very good article, everyone should read the comments section to find examples of the very people who are being successfully lied to by the right wing extremists (who somehow convince people like RC that Obama is the threat). The threat of totalitarianism is posed by people who actually believe that Obama is a threat. The only hope is that these dolts will wake up to the way they are being massaged by the right wing, and bite them in the ass. The right wing are experts at lying, obfuscation, pointless finger-pointing, mixing of apples and oranges, and they are winning at their game when we have to waste time clarifying the confusion they create as a screen for their slow steady progress to christian totalitarianism.Imagine, if the high-placed public servants on the right can so debase themselves with bald lies and displays of arrogance, then they must be very serious. Who will miss us when we are silenced?

Ishambat, Thank you a very good article. RC that rock don't float for more reasons than I care to spend typing. Here are a couple of thoughts on this: "All great empires fall from within, not from without. And why is it that people from outside the U.S. can see better what is happening than we do.

The abuse of history and fear mongering calling up NAZIism and the Jewish holocaust to defame an opposing political party as totalitarian is perversely ridiculous in it's extremism. The conservative Americans want for smaller government and a Constitutional relation for Bills passed by the Senate are not mechanisms for the design of totalitarianism. However, buried with in the authors text is the demand that all must adopt a belief  in the liberal agenda and no dissension is allowed. True totalitarianism.

The character of Alex Jones, Glenn Beck, and the Christian Right, is very much like that of the Nazis. They will say any lie, commit any crime, make any false accusation, and run any racket under the sun, to get their way. And just as Hitler got his way by appealing to national greatness and its tradition while demonizing the liberals, the feminists, the unions, and minority religions, so do these real totalitarians. Many among these people are in fact advocating overtly totalitarian tactics such as imprisoning and killing those on the Left. That's not American Constitution. That's real totalitarianism.

I agree with you with the exception that nothing is buried in the author's text. Indeed he comes right out and says it and makes no bones about it! The guy is like a broken record. I've said it before and I say it again: I find it curious that the author of this post consistently writes about America, its politics, its institutions, and it culture. Yet he doesn't appear to have any knowledge of America, its politics, its institutions, and it's culture! He just throws a bunch of crap out there. If the guy could actually put together a coherent and factually based news story, then maybe I would take him seriously. I'd love to read a story that he wrote about his own country and then fact-check his story to see if he's "biased" in his reporting. HA!

Liberal agenda or conservative agenda is one and same:politicise the issue without offering a concerete solution.Which politician would like to dig his own grave by solving a problem.
