Threats Against the President...
THREATS AGAINST THE PRESIDENT:
Are They Coming from Patriots or Idiots?
What do you call it when you go to a meeting with your "enemy" and you take a gun? How can you call it anything but a threat. The gun implies that you have the power to kill your enemy, and that you will use it if you want to.
And what do you call it when you are also carrying a sign that says from time to time
people, maybe even your enemy, have to be killed and that would be ok, even beneficial. That’s a threat as well.
Both of these things happened recently to our president. A man stood on the route the President of the United States was taking, and had both a gun, and the sign. And he was allowed to stand there, as he had been given PERMISSION from the church who owned the place where he was standing.
It makes me wonder what the name of that church is, what denomination: Was it the Church of we wear guns whenever we want and we make threats against the President, but still we are God fearing Christians? Unfortunately I don’t think that’s a new denomination that just started. I think they are very closely related to another denomination called Christian Hypocrites of America, which has been around since the beginning of this country.
The sign the man was carrying carried part of the old slogan the Right Wing Republicans love to quote that says, "The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
The quote is from Thomas Jefferson, and there is one more part to it, finishing by saying, "It is a natural manure."
So basically what the man who stood on church grounds was implying, was that HE was a patriot, and that Obama was a tyrant, and that he was willing to shed his own blood to kill Obama, if he thought it would "refresh" the tree of Liberty.
Never mind that Obama was and is not a tyrant, but was elected legally to be President by the MAJORITY of voters in this country, and that the vote was not even close enough for the Republicans to have the nerve to try to STEAL like they did steal on a previous occasion.
I think the fact that bothers this man and others like him, is that Obama was not elected by a majority of WHITE Americans. This is the first election the white majority has really lost so completely. And they will not stop trying to get their power back, even if it means threatening the President and implying that they will "refresh" white liberty with their own and his blood.
We have seen town meetings become mob meetings. The logic being I guess that whoever screams the loudest is in the right, no matter what the evidence to the contrary, and even if they scream completely assanine and ridiculous things like Obama is Hitler, or a Nazi or a Socialist.
The hero of these kind of people is again, Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers, and also a man who not only kept slaves, but saw nothing wrong with having children with one, without the benefit of marriage of course, and with the intention of keeping the whole thing forcibly as secret as possible. Now that sounds like a tyrant to me. So let’s all quote a tyrant spouting off about killing tyrants.
Fortunately for those of us who love our current President, there are other founding fathers of this nation greater than Jefferson to look to for inspiration and guidance.
For me, the man is John Adams, a man who never owned a slave in his lifetime, and who apparently was also faithful to his wife Abigale, even though they were apart for years while he was in Europe trying to help the new United States of America in wartime and in peace.
John Adams knew Thomas Jefferson. They were once great friends... until Jefferson stabbed him in the back.... doing everything he could to keep Adams from being elected President. But Adams was elected Second President of the United States, and Jefferson had to settle for being the third.
So there is another character trait of the "great" Jefferson right wingers might want to emulate in the future. He was two-faced... which in his old age Adams forgave him for..
Those were not peaceful times. There were mobs, just like the town hall meeting disrupters now.
And this is what Adams had to say about such people back then and it makes perfect sense even today: He said:
"A mob is no less a mob because they are with you."
And
"I have seen the result of too many mobs to entrust them with the government, sir."
And when I today see people carrying guns to what should be peaceful events, here is another Adams quote that is right on target, and which I feel as well.
"I have no stomach for cowards. None.
If you bring a gun to a public event, does that make you a brave man? Or a coward? How brave is it to bring a gun to where everyone else is not armed? Are you not threatening them? And isn’t because you are so insecure yourself?
John Adams told things the way they were. He was not Jeffersonian two-faced. Here is a quote two hundred or so years old that speaks directly today to those people who are lying about health care and other things:
"Slanders and libels and lies, mobs and seditions. Within the hissing snakes (lie) the burning torches and haggard horrors of civil war."
The newspapers back then, just as now, carried trash of all kinds about what the President was trying to do.
Adams had simple advice, as good now, as it was then. He said simply, "Waste of time reading it. Put it down."
Now, just as then, nothing good comes from the Republican lies and antics against health care, but it all could lead to much worse things, like Civil war. It is NOT impossible.
A lot of people didn’t like Adams - he was not a popular president, just as many white people don’t like Obama. But when he was elected he made a promise to do his best, just as Obama is trying.
Adams said,
"I make you the following solemn promises: To do justice at all times and to all nations. To maintain peace, brotherhood and benevolence with all the world, and to lay myself under the most solemn obligations to uphold the constitution of the United States to the utmost of my power."
Just what Obama is trying to do as well.
Also when he was elected, George Washington allegedly told him (Adams), "I am fairly out, and you are fairly in."
Bush was "fairly out" and Obama is "fairly in."
But too many people can’t accept that.
Adams said, "Is authority, when it springs from accidents and institutions established in remote antiquity more amiable and respectable than when it springs fresh from the hearts and judgements of an honest and enlightened people?"
What Obama is trying to do with health care is just as legitimate an attempt to better the lives of our people, as all the things other presidents have tried to do before him. He is not a tyrant. What he is doing is springing from the heart and judgements of an honest and enlightened people. To compare him to Hitler is moronic.
When he was elected Adams knew his predecessor had been a great President (Unlike Obama’s predecessor) and had this to say about him: "May the name of Washington be a rampart and the knowledge that he lives a bulwark against all open or secret enemies of his country,
The key part of that sentence is the last part, for even back then Adams knew that there were "secret" enemies of this nations peace.
Those enemies still exist today. The same kind of people who would raise the terror alert level right before an election, to instill fear in the people and make sure their candidate is elected. But Adams said, "A government by fear is NO government at all," and I agree with him. What about you?
In his old age Adams wrote about the founding of the government, and about what bad things could come to pass if Americans were not just and cautious. He said,
"Well posterity, you will never know how much it cost us to preserve your freedom. I hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains( I did) to preserve it."
I personally don’t believe that any president has ever been attacked so throughly and consistently right out of the gate as Obama has been. But all presidents have been attacked. Even the one we hold so high in esteem, our first president, George Washington.
He is said to have said, "I know what it is to be unpopular. I am weary of the task. Most weary."
Obama has to be weary of what he is going through right now, too, regarding all the lies that are being told about his desire to give millions of people who do not have health care, the right to have it. The poor, the disabled, the unemployed.
But oh how horrifically it is being opposed.
But even if you don’t agree with anything I - or John Adams or George Washington - have said, just remember this one thing:
Thomas Jefferson was not the ONLY founding father of this country.
And in my opinion, certainly NOT the best example to quote, or live by.
My money, my life, is on Adams.
And Washington,
and now Obama.
And for the record...
Throw in a little JFK.

Last I checked the US President has a lot greater ability to kill you than any armed citizen has to kill him. One guy (a black man I understand) with a gun hardly should be threatening to the leader of the free world. Reagan would have walked over to the guy and showed him his lifetime NRA membership and asked him if the two of them could head outback and squeeze a few rounds off together after the meeting. Obama supporters have read the Bill of Rights, haven't they?

Reagan would have done no such thing. To make such a statement is completely absurd considering that Reagan had his own life threatened by a gun and Jim Brady wasn't someone that Reagan would gladly have sacrificed to your flippant NRA remark. Better go back and read your history.

I know my history. Reagan never wavered from his strong support for bothe the right to bear arms and the NRA.

Really? How did that go? Reagan got shot...remember. Times change. Slavery not so relevant or as morally supportable as it was - it went. Extremists running around with guns (and I don't give a hoot if they are black, white, right or left) - not okay in urban environments, not required - it needs to go too. Times change, minds grow, and society matures. We hope.

Reagan was shot and that did not change his belief in the right to keep and bear arms.

So he get shot dies, some one takes his place, its just another puppet that takes his place. no real big deal.
Every president has had death threats, thats why each have 24 hour protection, the threat will never go away and those that threaten are a very varied bunch, its however the one that does not threaten and carries the act out thats the biggest threat. Why publish ones intent those that do are the nuts, crazies and the idiots.

What about President Andrew Jackson? He chased down one of his would be assassins with a cane. I thought that was pretty cool.

Obama is a socialist though, and the man carrying the gun was exercising his 2nd Amendment right to make a statement about the grass roots movement swelling in America... We the people are here to take back our government from the tyrants in Washington. We aren't going to do it with guns, we going to do it with Tea Parties, Town Hall meetings, Twitter, NowPublic and an old tried and true instrument of democracy called the election booth.

Obviously you silly blind right-wing radicals (I consider you to be tools of the prosperous) don't realize socialism when it's in your face. Giving money to the richest americans to do as they choose with it with no plan of return or oversight is...guess what...socialism! When the banks and insurance companies were bailed out in that massive free gift your man gave them, that was socialism to the highest degree. You only scream socialism when it helps the poor, the weakest and the elderly. Open your eyes. The Republican machine has done such a good job duping most of you that you honestly believe that they are looking out for your well-being since they promise to let you keep your guns. Your guns are the only concession you get to keep while your wallets were being lifted. They've been telling us to wait for the trickle-down for many years...crumbs from the tables of the mega-rich. Have the crumbs fed your families? Have they helped pay Gramma's hospital bills and high medication costs? Personally, I'm tired of the machine and am very glad to have it out of control. And, with the way things are going in their personal lives, I think the Republican machine really is spinning out of control and is desperate enough to enlist assassins by proxy.Too bad so many people are so easily stirred by their rhetoric and lies. I'm sad that so many people are ignorant to the fact that their hatreds and bigotries are easy to manipulate.
