Delhi saw the third consecutive day of heavy fog today. The fog settled down with rain.
Train accidents, delayed flights and power cuts added to the woes of the people even as the weather continued to grow colder.
The Fog started lifting following a slight drizzle across most areas of Delhi and NCR. By Sunday evening the sky had relatively cleared up with only a mild mist. But the thermometer showed a dip due to the rain and sudden lifting of the fog. The wind and high humidity made people experience one of the coldest days of the season.
Severe fog had hit Delhi and neighboring areas on the 1st of January as Delhites prepared for a long New Year weekend. Temperature had been falling for a couple of days leading upto the New Year, leaving people awaiting a cold wave.
For the last couple of years, winters in Delhi were warmer than average. This year was already colder than the last. The first day of the New Year brought with it the severe fog which appeared quite suddenly towards the evening.
The sudden onset of rain and lifting of fog is already causing a cold evening which might grow colder.
The meteorological department predicts that Monday may be slightly warmer if the mist clears and the sun gets a chance to come out for a few hours.
