A Via rail train travelling east from Toronto to Montreal crashed into a flatbed truck this afternoon, injuring three people.

The accident, which occurred at about 3:20 p.m. near Mallorytown, derailed the train's engine and baggage car and has temporarily shut down all train service in the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor for at least two to three hours.

A locomotive engineer, a Via employee, and a passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries, said Via spokeswoman Catherine Kaloutsky.

There were 207 passengers and seven crew members on Train 60, which left Toronto shortly after 11:35 a.m.

A few minor injuries were reported, with one passenger taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Other Via Rail trains travelling the corridor between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal were affected by the derailment.
