Tim Martin's Urgent Appeal to Obama! Hunger Strike Day 19
Dear Friends,

Tim Martin called me this afternoon to say he was bringing his hunger strike to an
end with a ceremony at 6.30pm today.

I would like to thank you for messages and wise words I received for
Tim from around the world and to those who went to personally meet with him and talk to him.
The overwhelming message from us all was that he consider living his life to work with his passion to strive for human rights”.

I have personally learnt so much from the experience.

I thank all those who sent me personal words of encouragement,
and to my critics for sharing your views and knowledge on situation in Sri Lanka.

I felt over the last 6 days catapulted into a the heart of a matter of which I knew
little about, the experience provided an opening of my heart of enormous magnitude and
also left me feeling completely exposed and naked.

I am now more aware of all that needs to be fixed in this world of ours.

I also discovered the support and reach of a global network so special.

I believe together, with a positive global consciousness we can achieve so much.

My name is Dana and I am an accidental tv journalist.

I set up Positive TV 3 years ago to address the balance of the news agenda which I felt was so set in the negative and was not addressing
the many positive breakthroughs and solutions that address the global emergency we find ourselves in.

However:

On Tuesday 2nd June I was reporting on the launch of The Global Peace Index 2009 that was launching at Central Hall, interviewing Steve Killelea, the businessman and philanthropist who as an individual set up and funded the index as up until this time in history Peace had not been measured.
I felt that this index was a positive solution towards working towards peace. Peace has never been more critical as population growth and security of resources of food and water become ever more stretched.

Positive TV then went out and about Westminster to interview people about peace, whilst out and about I literally stumbled upon Tim Martin- an British Aid Worker on his 16th day of hunger strike in bed in Parliament square. I was very shocked to find him there a bright young man who having witnessed the horror in Sri Lanka has returned to England to raise awareness to the terrible atrocities that are going on there. In a last desperate act of awareness he is now close to losing his own life.

His demands to end his hunger strike are listed below.

I am not an authority on war, but I am a compassionate human being and can not understand why the situation and terrible atrocities that are taking place today in Sri Lanka, particularly to orphaned and female children are being swept under the carpet by the international community.

I can not, having discovered Tim in Parliament square let him die with out his message being heard.

So I have recorded this plea to reach out to those who are in position to speak with him or help him with his requests, which seem very reasonable to me.

For me the Sri-Lankan conflict is at the heart of the matter of the crisis in humanity and that this issue needs to be urgently addressed on a matter of Human Rights issues and to look for solutions in such conflict resolutions.

Please can you share my appeal - I would so appreciate your urgent help and support on the matter

Many thanks

"...catapulted into a the heart of a matter of which I knew
little about..."

Precisely my dear fellow. You are a bleeding heart liberal with a collosal white man's burden trying to involve yourself in matters you know so little about, and the little you know comes from the racist and vengeful Tamil diaspora, which shares so little with the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

What right do you have to question our actions to protect ourselves from the Tamil Tigers who have terrorised our civilian population for over 25 years. They have done so with the backing of your government and media, and with funds sent by British Tamils through charities registered in Britain. The British government invaded us in 1815, brought hordes of Tamils from South India to work as their slaves, and gave our land to them to repay them for their faithful slavery. Tamils are born to be the slaves of the white man and it is amusing to see a white man trying to make a stand for their beloved slaves.

Pay us compensation for all the Sinhalese you massacred from 1815 to 1948, and our land and resources you stole from us and presented to your slaves. Your crimes against the Sinhalese was no less than what the Nazis did to the Jews. Yet you have the audacity to shed tears about your poor Tamils, when this is a problem that you created.

What is even more ironic is that this happens at a time when your country had illegally invaded and occupied Iraq and Afghanistan and killed and tortured millions more than the total amount killed in Sri Lanka. Why don't you go on a hunger strike for those people?

Dear Tim

I returned home just a few days ago to hear from Nshorna that you have courageously entered into a hunger strike. I walked down Denys Road a couple of times to see if your mum was at home but the house was empty. I assume she is in London.  So I checked out through the Net.

The act of the fast, one of the valid resources for non-violent protest, makes the individual concerned an empowered subject, a commited  participant engaged in a process for change for the suffering and the marginalised.

The loss of energy, through the fast, energises others to be conscious human beings, to take steps, to ensure support and protection of life. It is remarkable that you have endured 21 days - through the headaches, the cramps, weight loss, the uncertainties and pressures, inner and outer. People have suffered and continue to in Sri Lanka. They will be heartened to know of your deep concerns.

Your voice, your witness and commitment for the Tamils, for all the communities there and for the island of Sri Lanka, itself, has contributed to making us all that much more conscious of the pain in the past three decades on this beautiful island, and the task for reconciliation and provision for one and all of the necessities for the requisites for daily life, for culture and religious/political freedom.

I trust you make a rapid recovery, and in the months and years ahead you keep sharing with others your voice of concern.

With much appreciation

Christopher at 7 Denys Road.
