I drove home from meeting friends in LA tonight to find that part of Santa Barbara is on fire. They are calling it the Tea Fire. I drove straight up to make sure my friends Phoebe and Harry (who own the Santa Barbara Bird Farm and have 60 birds) were okay, but they had been evacuated and all the roads were closed. I got through to them via cell, and they (and the birds) are okay in a temporary location.
I took this pic on my way back from trying to make sure Phoebe and Harry were okay. It's a tiny, tiny portion of the fire-most of the fire is on the other side of that hill-but it's freaking way too close to my friends' house and I can't get it out of my mind. I can't sleep, and I wish I could get out there and make myself useful and find a way to help.

Thank you so much for the post about the Santa Barbara Bird Farm. Since the fire blazed through so quickly, I was concerned about Harry and Phoebe getting their flock out safely. Thank you again. --Shayne
