A hostage taking unfolded at a TJ Maxx department store in Venice, Florida, yesterday night as the store was closing down for the day around 9 PM local time. Various sources report between six and nine people were taken hostage, mostly employees. The hostage taking lasted for several hours, when the SWAT team stormed into the building. One person was injured, all other hostages are reported to be fine. It is believed that the motive for the hostage taking could have been robbery. Two armed hostage takers have escaped the store before the SWAT team raided the building and are currently at large. The search for them is now underway.

At 9:30 p.m. three hostages escaped unharmed through the front door, according to the report.

Around 12:20 p.m. four more hostages, all women, were able to leave the store.

A SWAT team stormed the building just before 12:30 a.m. after hearing a gunshot inside.

As of 2 a.m. Wednesday police had not located the gunmen.

"I don't want to speculate on the intent", said Sarasota Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Wendy Rose. "I just know that this could have been a very violent situation and could have been a very sad ending to this event and we're just very glad that everyone has come out safely", said Rose.

I'm just speculating here... Is it possible that the two women that escaped out the back of the TJ Maxx and called 911 are indeed the 'gunmen'?Fred NewsomeCheat Sheet News
