American-Cuban hacker Albert Gonzalez was sentenced to 20 years in prison for being the mastermind behind the most massive case of computer fraud and identity theft ever prosecuted.

In August of last year, twenty-eight-year-old Albert Gonzalez was indicted for the theft of millions of credit and debit card numbers between 200 and 2008. Gonzalez and his accomplices from the United States, Russia and the Ukraine used sql injection and packet sniffer malware to sneak on computers.
In 2007, Gonzalez also masterminded the hacking of TJX Companies stealing 45.6 million card numbers. He was arrested in 2008. The hacker pleaded guilty in August of 2009 to all 19 charges of fraud.
Among Gonzalez's victims were companies like BJ’s Wholesale Club, OfficeMax, BostonMarket, Barnes & Noble, Sports Authority and the Dave & Busters restaurant chain.
“I’m humbled by the 22 months I’ve spent in prison,” he said as his parents wept in the front row. “I never gave a thought to the millions of people whose lives I impacted because I thought they would be made whole by their financial institutions. I have no one to blame but myself.”
