Today is Canada Day, the day widely seen as the Birthday of Canada 142 years ago, on July 1st 1867.  On that day the Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Canada joined into a Confederation.  The Province of Canada was split into Ontario and Quebec.

As time progressed eight more provinces and two territories (now three) were added to what is now known as Canada.

Canada stretches from Newfoundland in East to Vancouver Island in the West, some 3500 miles; and from the U.S. border to Alert Bay in the North, again some 3500 miles.

This is a great day for all Canadians to show their pride in this country of ours.

Here is a list of Events across the Country

Alexander Graham Bell was the first to be awarded the the US patent for the Telephone in 1876

Canada Day celebrates country’s 142nd birthday

As Canada gets ready to proudly don red and white, Canada Day activities across the country are geared up to celebrate the history, culture and pride of Canadians from coast to coast.

Canada can be proud of its many accomplishments.  The UN Declaration of Human Rights, The Canadian Charter of Rights, Multicultralism, our involvement in almost every UN Peacekeeping Mission, Canadarm:), our involvement in the Space Program.

A lot still needs to be done, but I think Canada is on the right side of history.

Congratulations.

The telephone?

There are four inventor of the telephone, all immigrants from Europe, as far as I know, but, apparently, I don't.

Alexander Graham Bell.

Ya, he was born in UK, but lived in Canada and considered Canadian.

Alexander Graham Bell (3 March 1847 – 2 August 1922) was an eminent scientist, inventor, engineer and innovator who is credited with inventing the first practical telephone.

The modern telephone is the culmination of work done by many individuals, all worthy of recognition for their contributions to the field. Alexander Graham Bell was the first to patent the telephone

*** Note: the filter would not allow me to post the link, but its found on wikipedia, under the headings 'Alexander Graham Bell' and 'Invention of the Telephone'.

And there was the Italian guy who was an immigrant also. And two more besides him. There were four patented versions of the telephone.

What is with these "installed spam filters" that don't allow us to even post any links at all?

I am also tired of having to do the spam filter thing every time I submit.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

ttp://inventors.about.com/od/bstartinventors/a/telephone.htm to read about Bell vs Gray and to read about Meucci, ttp://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/bl_Antonio_Meucci.htm.

When you are in Europe, you learn that everything you know is wrong.:)

Both men rushed their respective designs to the patent office within hours of each other, Alexander Graham Bell patented his telephone first. Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell entered into a famous legal battle over the invention of the telephone, which Bell won.

way to go Bell :)

When you are in Europe, you learn that everything you know is wrong.:)
