TSA Pat-down Outrage: Thomas Sawyer, Survivor With Bladder Cancer Humiliated After Rough TSA Pat-down Breaks Urine Bladder (video)

A weekend TSA pat-down of cancer survivor, Tom Sawyer, 61, was apparently so rough that it broke his urine bladder.

The deeply troubling incident occurred at the Detroit airport on November 7th.

Thomas D. Sawyer, of Lansing, must wear a urostomy bag that is sealed to a stoma from his stomach via a wafer as a result of his condition.

On the day he traveled, Sawyer was flagged for a pat-down. After making multiple requests for a private screening, TSA agents took him to an office to do the pat-down. Despite warning the agents of his condition, the seal to Sawyer's urostomy bag was broken during the procedure, leaving him covered in urine. Sawyer says the agents didn't apologize for what had happened and that they didn't offer to assist him in any way.

A retired special education teacher, Sawyer was en route to Orlando for a wedding. Tom Sawyer needs to wear pants two sizes too big for him and says the TSA agents who did the pat-down clearly knew they broke his urine bag because of an obvious "wet mark."

Humiliated, upset and wet, Sawyer said he had to walk through the airport soaked in urine, board his plane and wait until after takeoff before he could clean up.

“I am totally appalled by the fact that agents that are performing these pat-downs have so little concern for people with medical conditions,” said Sawyer.[/q]

Tom Sawyer says he plans to file a formal complaint with the TSA.
