Tomorrow's Virginia Democratic Primary May be a Pivotal Contest
IOWA CITY - Hillary Clinton, conceding Barack Obama's large polling leads going into tomorrow's Maryland and Washington D.C. primaries, has focused her campaigning efforts in Virginia. The result of the Virginia's Tuesday contest may prove pivitol to her campaign.
Clinton has been campaiging hard amongst Viriginian Latinos, federal workers, and poor rural farmers to the South.
Obama leads Clinton by 53 percent to 37 percent in Virginia, where 83 delegates are at stake, according to a Mason-Dixon poll released Sunday. In Maryland, where 70 delegates are up for grabs, Obama leads 53 percent to 35 percent over Clinton.
An additional 15 delegates are at stake in the District. Washington D.C. and its Virginia and Maryland suburbs have large populations of black voters, and well educated, affluent white voters, demographics which poll strong for Obama.
In this historically tight delegate race, the margins of either candidate's victories in these Chesapeake contests may prove an important factor as well.
Following Tuesday's contests, the March 4 Democratic contests in Ohio and Texas are likely to be a focal point for both candidates' campaigns.
