Mrs. Madelyn Dunham cast an absentee ballot for her grandson, Barack Obama on Oct. 27 and it was process like other absentee ballots.   Mrs. Dunham passed away on Nov. 3.

According to the Associated Press, Mrs. Dunham’s vote was counted in the Presidential election.  The State Elections Chief, Kevin Cronin said a ballot from a deceased person would only be discarded if the Hawaii Department of Health received certification of death before the votes were counted on November 4.

The Star Bulletin in Hawaii reported that President-elect Barack Obama and his family plan a trip to Hawaii in December to honor his late grandmother.
