Top 15 Military Spending Per Capita 2008: Who has Gone Overboard?

Military spending in 2008 has increased year on year, breaking previous records. Israel leads the list, perhaps predictably given several factors. Despite Israel’s strong military alliance with America, risks to its existence are posed by burgeoning nuclear power Iran, as well as Palestinian and Lebanonese political extremist groups Hamas and Hezbollah.
GLOBAL military expenditure rose by 4% in 2008 to a record $1.46 trillion, according to a new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
