A man believed to be the head of al-Quaida in Somalia has been killed in an airstrike along with eight other people, according to an Islamic insurgent group.
The spokesman for the Islamic Al-Shabab militia says an overnight strike killed Aden Hashi Ayro at his house in the central Somali town of Dusamareeb. Sheik Muqtar Robow says eight others were killed and six wounded on Thursday.
Somali government officials have said Ayro trained in Afghanistan before the Sept. 11 attacks and heads up al-Qaida's cell in Somalia.
The U.S. military has attacked several suspected extremists in Somalia over the past year.
