NP Rank:
'Top Tory' in child sex abuse scandal
05 November 2012
David Cameron today called an independent inquiry into bombshell allegations that a former Tory politician was involved in a paedophile ring.
The Prime Minister said he would appoint a senior independent figure to lead the investigation to ensure that "truly dreadful allegations" were not left "hanging in the air".
Downing Street said that a separate process would be established to look at the way police at the time dealt with the claims of abuse which date back to the 1970s and 1980s.
The moves come after one of the victims came forward to say the Waterhouse Inquiry into abuse at the Bryn Estyn children's home, which reported in 2000, looked at only a fraction of the allegations.....Read more

Was there a paedophile ring in No 10? MP Tom Watson demands probe
A powerful paedophile network may have operated in the UK with links to Parliament and Downing Street, a Labour MP said today.
Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions, Tom Watson urged David Cameron to ensure that the allegation was properly investigated.
Mr Watson, who campaigned on the phone hacking scandal long before a new police inquiry was opened, said: “The evidence file used to convict paedophile Peter Righton, if it still exists, contains clear intelligence of a widespread paedophile ring.
“One of its members boasts of a link to a senior aide of a former prime minister, who says he could smuggle indecent images of children from abroad.”
I am not naming the person for obvious reasons but for clarity it is not former MP, Peter Morrison. This afternoon my office has been bombarded with calls regarding Morrison, I think because he was named by Edwina Currie at the weekend as having inappropriate sexual relations with teenage boys.....Read more

Was Margaret Thatcher's Top Aide Peter Morrison in Paedophile Ring?
By Dominic Gover: October 24, 2012
The politician implicated in an alleged child sex ring at 10 Downing Street was Sir Peter Morrison, one of Margaret Thatcher's closest advisers, IBTimes UK can reveal.
Morrison was the mystery "senior aide" MP Tom Watson alluded to at Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs). Watson's allegation of a paedophile ring close to Downing Street stunned the House of Commons.
Morrison was a Conservative politician who acted as Thatcher's parliamentary private secretary while she was prime minister. He also masterminded her failed bid to hold on to the leadership in 1990.

Thatcher aide 'had sex with underage boys'
Nicholas Hellen. Published 21 October 2012
EDWINA CURRIE, the former Conservative minister, has claimed that a leading Tory MP during Margaret Thatcher’s era had sex with underage boys — and senior party members had covered up for him.
Currie, 66, said this weekend she had heard that Sir Peter Morrison, Thatcher’s parliamentary private secretary and deputy chairman of the party, had sex with 16-year-old boys when the age of consent was 21.....Read more

The sheer scale of child sexual abuse in Britain.
The Guardian. Published April 1998
Fleet Street routinely nurtures a crop of untold stories about powerful abusers who have evaded justice. One such is Peter Morrison, formerly the MP for Chester and the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party. Ten years ago, Chris House, the veteran crime reporter for the Sunday Mirror, twice received tip-offs from police officers who said that Morrison had been caught cottaging in public toilets with underaged boys and had been released with a caution. A less powerful man, the officers complained, would have been charged with gross indecency or an offence against children.
At the time, Chris House confronted Morrison, who used libel laws to block publication of the story. Now, Morrison is dead and cannot sue. Police last week confirmed that he had been picked up twice and never brought to trial. They added that there appeared to be no trace of either incident in any of the official records.....Read more
