By, Uwe Paschen.

Tatebayashi City (Gunma Prefecture) was hit today by a major tornado/twister causing 21 injured and major destruction with 160 houses being destroyed.

Flying wood destroyed countless windows and cause injuries.

At least 3000 homes are with out power.

Why this news is of importance, for one this area has not know devastation by a typhoon  (tornado/Tropical Cyclone) in recorded history and two this was an extremely severe typhoon as well.

Further it is my Wife’s home town and where we where headed to.

Further news to come as it is available.

Video can be seen in link.

The official weather station have not reported a Typhoon as far as I can see but a Cyclone, I did looked it up and the term of tornado, Typhoon and Cyclone can overlap, People here called it all sorts of things and I will put up the correct term once I know for certain my self.

In the mean time do watch the video in the link and you will see for your self what happened here today and what will have to be cleaned up, fixed and rebuild.

Update:

A Tornado it is now for certain and not a Typhoon.

sorry to read your experience but your weather station did not report any typhoons today in Japan or any other area in that part of the world? May be you mean heavy storm or gale?

I am aware that the weather station did not report such Typhoon, why I called it Tropical Cyclone as well as Tornado.

Why because it has been called all sorts of name here today and as I put this up first I did not yet check the official term used by the Government's weather report.

It is what does happen when news is broth up as fast as it happens.

There for bear with me here since this is a work in progress and you are more then welcome to add information to it since you seem to have the time  as well.

I have to get back to work though.

I have updated it by now with the latest info. Now I really have to go.

You are more then welcome to add information to it as it becomes available.

I hope that these aberrant weather events are not a harbinger of the future.

I think they may be from the patterns followed over the past two decades Barbara.

This is crazy, I had no clue that Japan could have tornado at all.

Well, Nor did Japan, what made this disaster worth was that no one ever expected a Tornado here and why no warning as well as the confusion at first, since no one knew what did actually hit us.

It is still all over the news today since it is the first time this has happen, we are used to earthquakes and Typhoons and well prepared for those since we expect them. However, Tornados belong to Arkansas where they are well prepared for those and expect them.

Europe has had a few since the 80s in areas where no one knew tornados before as as well.

I think climate disturbances are becoming more comment and the unexpected may become the norm.

Unfortunately so.

I read it really quickly and I thought you said 'ravishes Tatebayashi'.  I haven't heard of tornados over there either but surely every country gets them.

We do have many areas around the Globe that do not know Earthquakes, Typhoons, Tsunamis, or Tornados in the last 1000 years and do only witness such disasters in recent decades.

We never had a Tornado here in Gunma, Japan. This is a first.

Totally off-topic:

In the novel "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick there is a side-noted media character called Buster Friendly. He always seems to be on TV 24 hours a day and it is intimated to the reader that Buster must be an android because he never sleeps. Sometimes I wonder about Paschen like that!

I am not sure what to say, other then the fact that WiFi is a great invention and the set up around Japan is excellent as well, allowing me to be connect all the time (or almost) wish allows me to check e-mail when ever I have a free minute.

I am not yet genetically manipulated nor do I have Nano Probes implants, even though at time I wish I could do with out sleep and get more done.

Then again maybe not. :) I assure you hidflect I am still a Human as far as I can tell.

Somehow I never thought of Japan having cyclones

Nor did I or any one else expected Tornados in this area. It is a first and I wish I could say a last as well.

Sorry to hear about this.

Here in the southern US we do have tornadoes at times, but we also have sirens for tornadoes & drills to take cover. Add into this the new radar systems that have been installed and we will usually get 5-15min. warning before it hits. That is the only reason we don't have more deaths to this type of storm.
