Tornados Confirmed as Intense Storms Hit Middle Tennessee

Nashville was alert Friday afternoon as storms made their way downtown.  Funnel clouds were spotted in several nearby counties but none have yet touched down.  Most of the area was in and out of Tornado warning status for most of the early morning thru early afternoon.

Just around noon, warning sirens went off at Vanderbuilt University to urge students to refrain from walking around campus.  Metro schools went into lockdown for about 30 minutes to keep the children safe as the storm passes by.

There have been multiple accidents on interstate 24 due to the wet roads.  Some areas have received intense lightening storms.  There are several storms in the area that local weather services continue to monitor closely.

Tornados were confirmed in several mid-state counties.  Approximately 40 homes have been confirmed to have been damaged in Lawrence County.  One home has been confirmed to have been destroyed near Buffalo Rd.  The Red Cross and other aid has been called in for assistance. Maury County residents are reporting having no power.  Maury County is reporting downed power lines as well. TEMA has declared a state of emergency.

news wanted:

I think this is an important story and would benefit from other NowPublic contributors working on it. I've flagged it as News Wanted and invite others in relevant locations to look for more evidence.

Can you help me get these photos off this story?  I don't know how they got there and they have nothing to do with this story.  Any help would be great!
