MUSSOORIE, 31 Dec: Thousands of tourists from the plains of Delhi, Meerut and Saharanpur arrived here today to ring in the New Year, 2010 amidst great cheer.
The last sunset and Winterline, which is formed over the Doon Valley, was bid adieu in anticipation of the New Year.
Tourists started arriving in the town from early morning and huddled in the chilly weather in their respective hotels. Some hotels offered attractive packages of Wine, Dinner and Dance including performance by live bands from Delhi. Most hotels were allowing couple entries only.
The packages ranging from Rs 2000 - Rs 5000 were on offer. The town was illuminated with ornamental lighting. Hotel Madhubhan Highlands came up with the novel idea of employing a few cartoon characters dressed as Teddy Bears, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, who shook hands with children and exchanged New Year Greetings. The liquor shops were the most crowded on the last day of the year. With the beginning of the count- down, 2010 was greeted with the loud sound and array of fire crackers and exchange of greetings. For some, it was a day for new set of resolutions. Tourists from Dehradun also turned up in their vehicles and returned late at night after celebrating New Year.
